I have a couple of estate sales to hit first thing Friday morning, then Lynn and I will be headed down to Ft. Meyers for the weekend. It looks like one of the sales on Friday has a bit of Free Mason stuff. I have no clue what it is or if it even has any "coolness factor". How 'bout it? Treasure or junk? (Oh yeah ... there may be a few firearms layin' around also) ;)

Now, around noon Friday, we'll head down to Ft. Meyers and I'll be hitting a few more sales down there on Saturday. I'm assuming this guy was a jeweler. The house has a few safes scattered throughout (I'll show a couple) and there is tons of jewelry listed. It also appears he was dealing with some Free Mason (?) rings. Anybody need a ring? ;)

Very cool.. I'd probably jump on a couple of the Blue Lodge rings. I've somehow broke the sets in both mine. I recognize a couple books. "Can't" tell you much about them. ;)

I'm just thankful I'm not close to there. I'd have empty pockets....
And yes there is some good work in those books.

Some neat stuff there, it's sort of sad how someones life work of collecting items and enjoying them, becomes someones garage sale after they are gone.
Two things caught my eye, picture 1, I think that's a Luger holster, the Colt SAA looks more like a prop than a real one, if real, should be worth $1500-2000.
Let me know if you score on the holster.
Have fun.

Larke and I were having that e act conversation just day before yesterday. Much of the flotsam ans jetsam we collect in our lives means something to us or we wouldn't keep it.

idon't know where the pack rat gene comes from. I've got it too.

Postie, I used to collect EVERYTHING! Heck, you guys used to give me a rough time for collecting nasty old razors! To be honest, I started going to these estate sales to buy stuff for MYSELF. But, it was also a rude awakening. Sale after sale, I'd see collections that people had spent their whole lives building. Some quite extensive. Then, once they pass away, the family has no interest whatsoever in grandma's collection of silver spoons from every state in the country, or grandpa's collection of old monkey wrenches. All they want to do is get rid of the crap so they can clean the house up and put it on the market. I even find boxes and boxes of old family photos and home movies they have no interest in. It's sad really. One day i came home, thought about it and realized most of my collections would be of no interest to anyone but me. That's when I started dabbling on eBay and once I got the ball rolling, I found out that the hunt was half the fun ... and selling at a profit was even more fun! I don't have one single collection of ANYTHING any more. But, there's a plus side! I just checked my account and I've made $62,000 on eBay so far ... and that's not even counting the larger, more difficult to ship items that I sell on Craig's List (I don't keep a sales record). Instead of that money being tied up in a full collection of Hard Rock Cafe shot glasses for example, I sell the crap and use the cash for a European cruise!

I've loved collecting all my life ... but my new passion is SELLING to other collectors. Trust me, it's waaay more profitable and I'll take a positive cash flow over a negative cash flow any day.

Now if you could just stop collecting cats.

That's Lynn's collection. I fought it for years, but finally gave up and accepted the old adage, "If ya' can't beat 'em, join 'em."

Bubba, I had a Luger once (traded it) that had that same holster as far as I can tell. Mine had an extra clip that went into that pouch on the side. The gun may be in there also. I can't remember, but I believe my holster completely enclosed the pistol. I have no clue about the Colt.

Note about the Luger I traded: I got screwed ROYALLY. I'd researched it myself and (thought) I knew what it was worth. I traded it at a gun show (can't even remember what I traded it for). At the same show a few months later, I spotted that same gun at a booth where the guy specializes in Lugers. I guess the guy I sold it to, sold or traded it to this guy. Anyway, he had some astronomical price on it ... I'm talking something like $4000! I didn't tell him it used to be mine, but asked what made it so expensive. He handed me a magnifying glass and pointed out a mark (I think it was an anchor, can't remember) and told me it was a Navy gun, but better than that, this particular model was only issued to submarine crew (or officers?). This was over 20 years ago, I'd hate to know what they're worth now. That was the worst trade I've ever made in my life. :(
