As I was headed down the freeway to the place I intended to fish, Don't Need Nothing but a Good Time by the band Poison came on the radio. I knew it was a good sign and I cranked the knob up on the volume and thoroughly enjoyed singing along with the song, at the top of my voice. It had been a super stressful week and I REALLY NEEDED some alone time on the river. I didn't catch a lot of fish but the fish I did catch made the whole trip worth it.

On my third cast I pulled this beast of a brown trout from the deep. He gave me one heckuva a fight and used the strong current to his full advantage. Once I got him on the bank it was happy dance time! He is my best brown out of the Missouri to date.

On the very next cast this beautifully marked brownie smashed my marabou jig and resulted in cause for another round of happy dancing. While he's not quite as big, he was plenty big to keep me happy.

The day was cold. The river was uncrowded. I was able to spend the day in solitude and for me that was perfect bliss. The white shown on the dam is solid ice. I can't even begin to guess how many tons of ice are clinging to the side of the dam. I imagine when it starts to melt and slide off of there it will be quite a sight!

Wintertime trout fishing is da bomb.

Poison? I'm amazed at how many heavy metal/hair band fans there are, and they are people you'd never suspect. Closeted almost.

Troy, you should come out here for Rocklahoma, http://rocklahoma.com/ . They draw a hundred thousand or so metal fans and always have a pretty impressive lineup. Poison has been there a couple of times, but I don't see them on this year's lineup.

Is that the elusive 24"er?

BBP, I was in my late teens and early 20's through the whole heavy metal era. In other words it was my era. Still love 70's rock the best, but some of that metal stuff is a close second. In newer bands I still lean towards the heavier music like Breaking Benjamin, 3 Days Grace, Avenged Seven Fold, Seether, and Disturbed. I don't listen to it all the time, but when I need an energy boost I enjoy it.

Chicken Dinner, nope he came up 2" short. I'm still in the hunt for his big brother.

I've always heard winter time is the time for those big browns. I've never caught one over a pound so you couldn't prove it by me!

The best time is actually mid October through November when they are aggressive and spawning. The next best time is winter in my opinion.

Larke, Troy longarm's a fish almost as good as you do. He can't pull it off as well since you have those tiny little Trump hands that make the fish look bigger.

You still owe me a friggin dollar.
