So I'm emailing an old buddy from Verizon, setting up a dinner meet this saturday evening. In one of the emails to him I said 'frak', well not frak but the real frak. Verizon's email server caught it and wouldn't let him reply because it contained profanity.

So now companies are screening their employee's work email for profanity? Are you frakking kidding me?

I don't know what all the filter would pick up. I just thought it odd they screen for anything. Smacks of Big Brother.

I'm wit you Posthole, where does the madness end? You can't even in the privacy of your home say anything racist, sexist, homophobic, or anything mildly offensive to any one of a hundred different groups. Even if I didn't support Trump, I like his deal with it attitude.

If you have an expectation of privacy to any email in or out of your company, you are (a) not paying attention, (2) ignoring the policy documents you signed, (iii) naive. Email is the property of the company.

I don't have any expectation of privacy and I'm familiar with the old concept that whatever you do on company time belongs to the company whether its email or whatever. Hell, even our piss belongs to the company.

What I didn't expect was some robotic monitoring for cuss words. I mean, that's a little prudish don't you think? Most folks at Verizon are adults at least when I worked there. I don't recall there being a problem with employess swearing at customers in their email.

It's a pretty common thing these days. Technology makes it an easy "click" to turn on filters like that and narc on anyone that does it. It's what happens when the security guys aren't kept in check.

They probably have 1000 filipinos manually printing and reading emails for swear words.
