I have a buddy that is looking at doing an elk hunt next year in Montana. Do you have any suggestions regarding units he should look at? I believe he's not planning on using a guide.

I think he's looking at the area southwest of you.

DD, I don't hunt elk much. Heck Bwana probably knows more about hunting elk in Montana than I do. He's spent more time doing it than I have.

Ok thanks. I'll guess I'll open the question up to anyone then.

Is he planning to bow hunt or rifle?

I don't know much but if he is going to bow hunt, the Charlie Russell area around Fort Peck is supposed to be quite the place to hunt.

When I hunting Montana I concentrated on an area on the west side of Yellowstone National Park. Didn't shoot an elk but did run across some grizzly bear tracks, a bear rubbing tree, and my Dad had a heart attack.

Good luck

Talked to a gent who hunted Paradise Vally on the north side of Yellowstone opening weekend of the rifle season and had a blast, but he was with a guide.

Ring Cornholio's bell and see if he answers.

He's gonna be rifle hunting.

Cornholio hasn't been around in years has he?
