Despite the fact that the race is rigged, I'm still pulling for Junior to win today.

Naaa, it ain't rigged. That's only done by Democraps. Racers are almost always Republicans.

BTW, your post has a hint of political lean to it. Shame on you! ;)

(I'll agree on pulling for a Junebug win)

BarryBobPosthole

No, everything that has a result I don't like is either rigged or fake. It's the new reality.

And my post wasn't political. Its just because I was a businessman and therefore I need e eryone else to tell you what it was I meant when i said it.

I'm pulling for Junior but the guy I want to see win most today is Mikey Waltrip in his last Daytona 500.

Yeppers, I'm starting to really feel old these days. The drivers I've always thought of as the "new guys" are being replaced by new guys! :(

Tell me about it! I don't even have old Cousin Carl to hate on any more.

All the 'Young Guns' are now starting to retire.

Yep! There was a time when I was running around the pits with Dale Sr. as a kid! We were 9 months apart in age. His dad Ralph was racing at the time and I can remember the race (Charlotte I think) when he loaned us a part to get into the race. (we'd broken during practice) Heck, I think even Richard Petty is like 80 years old now. Sheeesh!

I think it may not be all that bad. Time will tell. At least it keeps them from riding around in a train for the first 180 laps and showing no aggression until the end of the day.

Ok, so I've had this race on since before it started and having been working on images whilst viewing. I think they've actually raced for 7 minutes during the 3 hours of fucking commercials. Do redneck racewatchers have this kind of patience?

You're getting a bit curmudgeonly in your old age.

Oh look, another wreck before they make it halfway around the first lap from a restart. And now... 15 minutes of commercials.

Honest question, do you guys consider this entertaining? I'm not judging. I just don't get it. Some of the smartest people I know watch NASCAR. Maybe I'm too ignant to unnerstand it. I'm sure that's it.

It's looking like a Daytona junkyard today! I'm not sure enough cars will still be on the track for the finish!

So, what would you like to do? Sit and watch wreckers towing smashed sheet metal off the track while the sweepers blow Oilzorb around? Take a red, maaan! :)

Push the dead shit to the side and keep racing! Ben Hur style! Betcha they'd get a hell of a lot more TV revenue.

Ha! You have a lot to learn grasshopper! Maybe you should stick to ball games. I'm assuming they have no commercials. ;)

Wow! Typical Daytona finish! Ya' never know 'til the last lap. The only difference is the "big one" got divided up and out of the way early! Good race.

I'm with Len. I turned it on for about 45 minutes with 77 laps to go and if I saw 5 minutes of green flag racing I'd be shocked.

I made the same comment to Cheryl about the commercials. I quit watching and went outside and worked on the yard.

The new format sucks. More nascar bullshit of fiddling with something that is successful just to try to make a few more bucks convincing somebody new to watch stock car racing. It ain't gonna happen. I turned it off after junior wrecked. What a bunch of bullshit. I may not watch another race this season.

That is exactly when I turned it off and like you I doubt I'll watch another one this year.
They have forgotten all about Stockcar and every southern redneck that built that sport.

I will speak heresy and say this: I've thought the fix was in at NASCAR from the time when Junior won the Pepsi 400 right after his daddy died. Its terrible to think it mich less say because I think Junior is the epitome of what stock car drivers out to be, how to act, the whole nine yards. Just like his old man taught him to be. And he'd never be a part of anything like that. But I watched the race and people don't do that shit that easy, I don't care who they are.

And I agree with Airbud that the Lowe's car sure did give NASCAR what it thought it needed when it needed it.

Flame away.

Ha ha ha! What a bunch'a dufuses! Do you have any clue how many people would have to be in on a conspiracy like that? And do you think for one minute a car owner, who receives millions of $$$ from their sponsors, would throw the race to LOSE? Sponsors only want winners! And what do you do to keep the "chosen one" from crashing, being wrecked, having a flat or puking a motor? Conspiracy theorists ... a strange lot for sure. 'Course, you bozos would probably agree with my grandmother that the moon landing was faked.

The bottom line is that NASCAR is just a motorized soap opera, or maybe reality TV Show at best, these days anydamnway.

If your product is so boring they have to make stages in a race to try to generate interest something's wrong.

That's why I'm going to be in sunny St. Pete next week for a real race in Florida, the Indycar Grand Prix of St. Pete.

I've always wanted to see a grand prix race. Did you ever see a documentary called Grand Prix: The Killer Years? Excellent documentary of early racing.

Those guys were either brave or stupid. No roll-bars and not much fire fighting equipment nearby either. It's a wonder any of them lived to have a long career.

A friend and I had full passes for the weekend at the one and only similar event in DC a number of years back. It was impressive to be so close to the action and free to roam around. Sounds like you will have a great time!

ETA: I still enjoy NASCAR (so far). Like a lot of sports (for me), it is more interesting the more I understand what's going on. For instance: I'm still not a baseball fan, but much more of one after rooming with a couple of fanatics a long ways back. I think it helps to attend an event as well.

Just don't judge the racing by the shitty coverage ABC has. NBCSN does a much better job.
