I'm not really a Mel Gibson fan to be honest. He kind of plays the same character in every movie. He directed this one and it is an excellent movie based on a true story of a medal of honor winner at Okinawa.

O'reilleys last book mentions this guy. Pretty damn impressive if you're ever looking to find the definition of courage and bravery.

Some of the CGI in the battle scenes is distracting because IMo its done poorly and is pretty over the top. But from reading Eugene Sledge's book about Okinawa and Peliliu, the movie is the best match of his description of the battlefield horrors in the Pacific I've ever seen in a movie. Gibson done good making this movie, and the lead actor should've won the oscar.
