Len's post on the Beatles made me think of this as I'm probably as guilty as anyone of being in a bit of a rut musically. Part of the problem is I don't spend enough time in the car to listen to much new music. Any good recommendations out there? Genre doesn't really matter as I pretty much like a little of all of it. I'm not really looking for new music by established artists. But, new artists.

My musical taste lately is all over the map.

The music I've been listening to lately has been Colvin and Earle (the best version of You Were On my Mind ever. EVER.), the Buffalo Springfield Greatest Hits, and Mumford and Son- Wilder Mind, turned all the way up to 11.

I like Mumford's sound. But, it all starts to run together on me after a while.

Try a band called Rival Sons. Kinda grows on you after a while. Good mix of old and new rock I think. They were great live actually. They opened for Black Sabbath when they came through Tulsa a couple months ago.

If you're looking for something different. Cake. They self-produce everything. They've had some Pop hits but if you dive in to their albums, it's really good stuff and different than your regular bear. They do some great covers too. I like them because they're about the song before anything else. No standouts or ego crap. A band before anything else. They're a little self-important but I look past that part to the music :)

Metallica's new album is pretty damn good as well. Kinda fuses the lengthy tunes of their groundbreaking years with the sound and appeal of the black album.

I've completely given up on country music with one exception. I actually really like the Zack Brown Band. They not only can sing, but they are very good musicians as well. They also don't sound three-quarters brain damaged like 99% of current country music.

In rock I like some of Black Berry Smoke's stuff. Not everything, but some of it is pretty darn good.

Truth be told all my radio stations in the car or truck are Classic Rock stations as I'm really not that crazy about most new music anymore.

With that said I have my computer playing music for my students right now. What do I have on the play list Mark Chesnutt's greatest hits. I sure wish he was still producing awesome music like he did at the height of his career!

Blackberry smoke is pretty dang good. They're like a cross of Zeppelin and the Black Crowes kinda sorta... the stuff of theirs that I like, anyways... Which is prolly what BS likes as well I'd bet.

This is my son in law's punk band in Fort Collins. They've worked damned hard on their music and are starting to get a pretty big following in northern Colorado.

i'm not a huge fan of the genre but if you are, give them a listen.

Len, a cross between Zeppelin and Black Crowes is about the best description I've heard when it comes to Blackberry Smoke.

I'm a big fan of BB Smoke and I'm here to tell you there ain't a quark, not one slimy little neutron of Led Zep in Blackberry Smoke's music. Not a nanofucket.

BB Smoke is a southern rock band more reminiscent of 38 Special and that ilk than an English 70s rock band.

I've been all over with my listening lately. On the rock side I've been listening to The Cult and for lighter stuff it's been Keb Mo.

My bad! I was confusing names with BuckCherry. Hey... It's a B word and has a fruit in the name.

oh pshaw. He's got maybe some Dickey Betts in him but no Jimmy Page. In fact, if you listen to their stuff closely, you'll find their roots is more classic country and the Allman Brothers than anything else. They are a Georgia band afyer all.

Put your dial on outlaw country and don't look back.
Best music out there. Most are NOT what you hear on "regular" country channels.

One band my older boy has turned me onto is Five Finger Death Punch. They've got some good original stuff, but their covers of Bad Company and House of the Rising Sun are damn good.

And... bands don't cover legendary material like that unless it inspires them.

Your objection is overruled, Sir!
