My wife and I had the opportunity to go to the range today. We were there initially to shoot handguns as part of a handgun/CCW training class, but the instructor knows I'm a gun nut. He brought a little surprise for me.

First time I've ever had the chance to shoot a 50 caliber rifle. Let me tell you it's AWESOME!

The case alone is bigger than any of my fingers.

The really cool thing was I was able to get my wife to shoot it as well. Look at the size of the magazine compared to her hand!!!

Just before she put her finger on the trigger and let one fly. Truth be told she was probably closer the bullseye than I was. I have to admit I flinched a little when I shot this cannon. Pretty freaking awesome day is all I can say.

Wow! That IS cool ... but at $5.00 a pop, ya' don't want to shoot it a whole lot! :hair

I fired about elebenty-bazillion rounds through my M16 and an M60 back in the military days. I did get to play with a .50 cal. Browning (M1) a few times, but probably only fired 15-20 rounds total. I have never fired a modern Barrett. Personally, I don't know enough about them to spot the difference between the M82 and M107. Do you know which one you played with? (I assume the M82) It looks like an awesome weapon!

This one isn't a Barrett. It was an AR something or another. I just remember him saying it was a $8000.00. So it's not only the largest caliber rifle I ever shot it's also the most expensive.

Oh, I just saw the Barrett ammo box and assumed it was a Barrett. I guess that's why it looked different ... I figured he changed the muzzle brake and the top rail looked totally foreign to me. Yep, they can easily get up in the $13,000-$14,000 range with a scope. But some of the stripped, bare bones models can get down around $4,000. Heck, if I could afford to buy one, I couldn't afford to shoot it! ;)

Your wife is one of us highly intellectual, creative genius, good looking, amd universally loved.....lefties!
That looks cool as grass!
For those of you old timer Goodhunters, when one or our original GHers (Bubbles) got married out in Virginia to a newb (Hard Rock) they fired a 50 cal machine gun at their reception. That had to be an expensive and fun!

BBP, you being a lefty, now that explains a lot! ;) Nice noticed skills.

Air Bud between the huge muzzle brake and the rifle weighing 40 lbs the recoil was less than my 30.06.

That's a big ass rifle! Holy moly? How was the recoil? Manageable?

BBP. If you're e lefty, why do you play the guitar right handed? You're confusing me!

Throws left, bats left, golfs right, shoots right, writes left, left eye dominant, plays guitar right, fishes right, roughs up the governor right or left. Or both.

I bet as heavy as it is, it kicked about like a 30-06 :D
Least the ones I've shot did... ;)

I bet that huge muzzle brake helped with the recoil too.

I'll bet he still flinched though. And because of it I'll bet his wife prolly shot better than he did.

I've heard somewhere they'll make you flinch.

So Sky, how many times had you shot a .50 cal. before this one? Was it awesome? ;)

You guys are pretty funny sometimes. This just might be one of those times. Too bad Len isn't enough of a noticer to get it. :D

Man! That thing is huge! I'd have to guess just the casings are bigger than your fingers. Are they? How big is the magazine? Say, compared to your wife's hand for example?

By looking at it, I'd say that it weighed about 40 pounds.
