My wife and I will be heading to Vegas for a few days next week. First time there for both of us. Neither are big gamblers, so what are the must see's that we need to hit?

Two shows we really liked, both by Cirque du Solei: the Beatles Love and Ka. The tickets are expensive but they are really awesome shows.

I've looked at the info on Ka and it looks pretty good. Another Cirque show I've looked into is O.

I've been told that La Reve is really good too but there are no performances while we will be there.

I've always thought Blue Man Group would be a good one to see too.

If you haven't seen Blue Man Group, I'd highly recommend it. I haven't seen O but have heard its awesome. I can vouch for Ka and Beatles Love. Both will amaze you.

If you like art, Bellagio usually has some sort of good art show going on. And if the weather is nice and you're out walking around, be sure and catch the fountains at Bellagio in the evenings. They are beautiful and there are some good places to sit amd rest a spell there too.
There is a restaurant called Trattoria down by MGM that has out of this worl italian food. We never miss it when we're there.

I second the Beatles Love thing. We also saw Elton John which was great. There is a ton of great music to see. Also, a bunch of really good restaurants. Lots of cool stuff like gun ranges where you can shoot full auto, drive a backhoe or a bunch of other weird crap. I love it there (and don't gamble), but always feel like I stayed a day too long no matter how long I'm there.

Take a drive down to Hoover Dam, walk around, and do the tour.

The Dueling Piano's bar is pretty cool if you are into that sort of thing.

If you are flat out nuts, I hear there are several rides at the Stratosphere (??) that will dangle you off the edge of their roof which is WAAAYYY up there. Not going to catch me doing it though others seem to enjoy.

I'll have to give two thumbs-up for Postie's suggestion on Cirque du Soleil and I'd add "O" (at the Bellagio) to the must-see list. I agree, pricey, but it beats the heck out of what you'd probably lose if you were a gambler. Suggestion, don't try to scrimp on the tickets ... it'll cost you, but there's so much to see, lousy seats will take a lot away from the experience. I don't know if it's changed, but I'd purchase tickets as early as possible (on-line if you decide you'd like to see a Cirque du Soleil show). You didn't say when you'll be there, but buying tickets today would be a good start!

For a first timer, you should probably spin through the major casinos just to get a feel for the place. Of course, you know me, if you're a foodie, Vegas is a slice of heaven. Vegas is nothing but 100% tourist focused (I'm talking about the Strip and downtown of course), so there's something for everyone and the trip will be whatever you make of it. Personally, I've spent probably as much time in Vegas as Wayne Newton! Well, that is definitely a stretch, but my dad lived there for about 10 years and enjoyed it. For a non-drinker and non-gambler or party person, that says a lot. I lived in L.A. (Simi Valley) and Vegas was a 4-hr drive for me. Dad and I would many times pass each other on I-15 on the weekends. He had a key to my house and would spend many weekends in L.A, I had a key to his place and would spend many weekends in Vegas. Heck, I couldn't tell you how many times Lynn and I would get off work on Friday and decide at the last minute to run up to Vegas for the weekend ... and be back for work on Monday! In fact, speaking of Wayne Newton, a tour of Wayne Newton's house is an interesting break from the craziness of the Strip. It may sound hokey, but it's pretty cool.

One big factor on what to see and do depends on whether you'll have a car. You can pretty much walk up and down the Strip (I assume you're staying on the strip). If you do have transportation, I'd suggest going up to Lake Mead and Hoover Dam to add a "been there, done that" to your bucket list. It's not what it used to be, but still interesting. Lake Mead is at a record low (I assume it still is) due to the drought, and since 9/11, the Hoover Dam tour is nothing like it used to be. Due to security restrictions, you can no longer go down into the bowels of the dam for example, but it's still something interesting to see and learn about. You can purchase a tour if you have no car, but I have no idea how those are (I always drove).

You really should get downtown (the original Vegas strip) to the "Fremont Street Experience" one evening for the light show. I've stayed at the Golden Nugget before and that's a good area to hang out and watch the show, but the interesting part is just walking the Experience. It's only 5-6 blocks long, but it's packed with stuff to see and do plus there's a lot of Vegas history there. I understand they now have a killer zip line going down the center of the mall if you're into that sort of thing.

If you have a stack of money (or plenty of room on your credit card), there is a huge selection of helicopter trips for tours to the Grand Canyon. Also, they have shooting experiences if you want to fire some automatic weapons. I don't remember the names of the packages (there are a few), but go for the OUTSIDE gun range (not an inside range) as you will be able to do a Big Sky experience and shoot a .50 cal. I think they have different packages and a bazillion different style weapons to chose from. The range is not far from the strip and I think they all supply transportation from your hotel and back. Heck, with an LEO I.D, maybe they'd offer you a special deal. Ya' never know.

Crap, I could go on forever. Suffice it to say, Vegas offers something for everyone. Don't be afraid to think outside the box, especially since you're not a big gambler. Although I've been to Vegas a bazillion times, I've never played anything bigger than quarter slots!

Ka & O are both great shows. There are some amazingly good restaurants. The Bellagio has a few as do most other places. Ocean Blue. Michael Mina and Lago are really good. The best sushi fusion food I've ever had was at the Aria hotel bit I can't remember the name of it. First class service and amazingly good food.

For gambling I just play roulette. I manage to break even or win a little every time and your money doesn't vanish as quickly as other games :)

Your noticer status is going to be in jeopardy if you don't change your ways P-hole. Like I said in the first sentence of my last paragraph ... ;)

I don't see where stating the patently obvious should have a negative impact on a guys noticer status.

Vegas is a cool place and I kind of miss the ease of going there regularly. We only go once every few years these days. The fact I could drive and had a place to stay, made the trips a lot easier to afford. As I said above, if I wanted a relaxing weekend, I could stay at my dad's place. If I wanted to stay on the strip, I always had a comped room at the Circus Circus. I knew the Vice President of CC and had a special phone number to call if I ever needed a room. I didn't even have to talk to him ... if I had that number, I had a free room ... period! It was a nice perk! The last time I saw him was at the Mint 400 when I was running around with the Bill Stroppe racing team. Mel was big-time into the racing scene and just passed away a few months ago. He was a super nice guy and will be missed by many.

He definitely is at that. In the other thread of Big Sky's he asks about the recoil right after Sky tells Airbud that is was less that his .06 because of the muzzle break and weight of the rifle.

LJ's whole Karma is off...
I think he looks at the Title of a thread and skim reads...
Either that or his noticing skills have gone to hell...

We made it through our first night in Vegas. Talk about sensory overload!

We are staying at the Tropicana. Got a great deal on the room and got upgraded to a poolside bungalow room. We went and watched Blue Man Group last night. It was even better than I had anticipated. The Luxor is just over the top! I think we're going to try to see Ka too while we are here.

If you get a chance, grab brunch at The Wynn. Pricey, but worth it.
