I once watched a houseboat take off from the dock where the wife had tied a rope to the handle on the transom of the fishing boat they were towing behind. It pulled the transom out of the boat and transom and motor was hanging straight down underwater from the dock piling. I had royally freaked out a Canuck border person after I poured three dozen minnows in the water, after she told me I couldn't bring American minnows into Canadian waters. (same lake, so it was the nationality of the minnowsthat was the problem).

But the boat thing saved my bacon.
