We've all caught fish that were bleeders. Usually its when they get hooked deep around the gills. It can get bad fast and they don't last long when it really gets going. So
i read if you have a cooler with a cold soda, coke and mountain dew were said to be best, pour some cold coke down their throat and it will stop it cold. no pun intended.

Anybody heard of this? Or tried it?

Haven't heard that. A deep hooked fish or bleeder is a sign from above for a fillet dinner in my book

Actually, I'd never heard of it, so I had to dig a bit to see what was out there. Evidently, it's been known and written about for quite some time. Here's an interesting article with a "scientific" explanation.

I think I'm rare in that I rarely drink when I fish. Weird, I know. I'll bring a walleye whistle, though :)

Captain contacted a fisheries guy he knows who knows his stuff, and he say it might help an itty bitty scratch but beyond that it was likely not effective.
