I have my second post-op ct scan coming up in early May. And I just saw my cardio guy this past week and he wants to do one of my carotids in early May too. Both of these guys are specialists and they work for different hospitals. I am wondering, would it be dumb of me to ask them if they could do one scan that'll cover what they both want to see so I (and my insurance) don't have to pay for two and get a double dose of radiation to boot?

Anybody ever done anything like that?

No!.....How can doctors make money like that?.....you come twice and pay twice...j/k

That is a good idea Barry.

I may be wrong, Tpost, but I don't think carotid scans involve any harmful ionizing radiation....that's just some info. I remember when I had mine done.

I'm more worried about the hazardous radiation on my wallet.

You're probably confusing an MRI with a CT-scan Muddy.

P-hole, I'd sure mention the conflict to both docs and get their opinion. I've had so many CT-scans, it's a wonder I don't glow in the dark! It's not ideal, but I have to have regular follow-up scans to make sure my previous issues are still in check.

FWIW, my doc had been searching for a possible kidney problem, but all tests (urine, ultrasound and who knows what else?) turned out negative, so she decided to order a full body CT-scan. The scan confirmed the kidney problem had most likely been a simple infection that cleared up on it's own. BUT, the scan DID show an UPPER THORACIC aneurysm (upper would be the Aortic artery from my heart to my brain, a pretty good distance from my kidneys)! I credit my doc's thoroughness with saving my life. The aneurysm was more than twice the maximum size allowable. In other words, on the verge of rupturing at any minute. I went directly into the hospital for emergency surgery. NOBODY (myself, doctor, nobody) had a clue it was there as there are no symptoms unless it ruptures. The scary part is, with an UPPER thoracic aneurysm of that size, I would never have made it to the hospital if it had burst (bursted?). My doc said I'd have lived about 7 seconds. :hair

Sign up for Obummercare. That way you can pay higher that shit preminums and still have to pay for both procedures totally out of pocket... ;)

Another medical question... Any of you ever had a hemmoroidectomy you'll admit to? Asking for a friend.

Never had 'em, hope I don't, the people i know who've done that surgery would've done anything to end that misery.

Does your "friend" want to borrow my inflatable "donut"? ;)

Not that bad yet but it's getting there. My GP doesn't do shit about it... I have a colonoscopy coming up and I'm not even sure if that's the same kind of doc that deals with hemmies?

Not sure about your situation Posty, but I was able to pull off a two-for-one when I got them to do both a hernia repair and remove my gall bladder at the same time. I figured since they were already going to be in there, why not take care of them both at once. They concurred and the only change it took was one extra hole in me belly,
