On my most recent trip this trio of bad news was cruising the shore looking for the same thing I was. Only I prefer to let fish live after I catch them. With these guys the fate of the fish is pretty final. Neat looking birds though.

Do those have black wingtips? the ones that migrate here in the fall have bkack wingtips and they can sure as hell put away the shad. Beautiful birds.

We have bazillions of those dang things down here. They can really be a BITCH when you're trying to fish 'cause they will grab your bait in a heartbeat! I've hooked a couple of them in my life and it ain't fun! They had a huge problem down here a few years back as some fishermen were cutting their top bills off when they'd hook one ... then they were unable to eat. The thought sickens me, but I'll have to admit, there were times I WANTED to do the same. (for the record, I'd NEVER do that)

Barry, I can't remember for sure but I believe they do have black tips on their wings.

Why cut the top bill off and make'em suffer. A smack on the head is much quicker and more humane. Neither is legal, but if you are going to break the law...have a little class. ;)

Yeah, it was pretty sick as they'd slowly starve to death.

BTW, this is breeding season for the White Pelican. (usually March-April I think) You can tell when breeding season comes in as they grow those protrusions on the top of their bills. After they breed, those things will fall or get rubbed off ... much like a buck shedding it's rack.
