Self made gazillionaires who don't have to worry about what something cost, you just slide the plastic and it rides home with you. Not so around my house. We squeeze every nickle till it's thin as a dime. It's safe to say that we don't dine on fillet mignon and lobster very often. There was a time that when you had company to feed you simply bought a nice chuck roast about five lbs. Now you're looking at 20 bucks to a good size roast. What's a poor man to do?

I like to take a couple lbs of ground beef, mix it with a couple lbs of ground pork which is relatively cheap around here, add a chopped onion, some bell pepper, a couple eggs and breadcrumbs. Mold it in a Dutch oven, add carrots, sliced potatoes and enough brown gravy mix for about three cups and pour over the whole concoction. Salt and pepper then cook the veggies tender. As good as a roast and a whole lot cheaper. If you like to live dangerously, stit in a teaspoon of red pepper flakes when you're mixing the bread crumbs in

When we have deer meat ground into burger we figure how much fat we need to add and instead of fat I go buy that much (weight wise) of bacon and ground it in instead of fat.
We call it bacon burger and it is off the hook good....

QA, I do the same thing with ground venison and pork....I mold it into a meatloaf with diced onions and bell pepper, then chunk it in the crock-pot with all sorta veggies....I never even look at it for about 6 hours, then serve it with biscuits and mac-n-cheddar cheese....just thinking about it made me reach over and slap a picture of my granny. ;)
