.
Our plates use to be quite reasonable....up until about 10 yrs. ago, they were quite reasonable, especially those of us, living outside the city limits, and our farm vehicles.

Now, they are what I call pretty high....the plate for my wife's new 2017 GMC Acadia was $620, however, if I lived inside the city limits, it woulda been nearly $1,300.

Almost makes me wanna claim my residence in Ark....that same plate in Ark. woulda been about $55.

You're talking yearly? My Prius was $19 and change. Pickup about 24 bucks. Now on a new vehicle you have to pay 7% sales tax before you get your tags plus a one time fee to register the vehicle with the state.

The oldest vehicle I own is a 07 Colorado that I keep around here for a spare. It's a great vehicle that might get 500 miles a year put on it.
We just renewed the tag and paid 79.33 for it.
Our new vehicles, my truck and Cheryl's Lexus would be quite a bit more, but I don't deal with expenditures. The secretary of finance and war handles all that. ;)

Nope talking about Mrs. Captain. She handles all the loot around this place.
You don't think I'm crazy enough to let Thumper in my personal accounts do you?

$447 for all three vehicles. Plate stays the same, just a small colored sticker in the corner gets changed
Oh ya, we pay 6% of the purchase price when bought.

We pay the state $100 every two years for the plate. We pay the County 2% of the FMV every single freaking year in personal property tax. It applies to boats and trailers as well.

When you get a new vehicle here you have to pay a one tiime excise tax of 3.25% of the purchase price providing the purchase price is within 20% of average retail price. If it's not then you pay 3.25% of what the state decides the average retail value is. On used vehicle you pay an excise tax of $20 on the first $1,500 of the value and then 3.35 % thereafter. The annual tag is $96 for years 1-4 after registration then years 5-9 its $86.

Damn, I complain about our excise tax. I'd never buy a vehicle here if I had to pay full sales tax.

SC vehicle sales tax is 3% also but it is capped @$300 so a new vehicle here would be about the same as Big Muddys...$600 give or take then every year after around $100 till the vehicle got older then its a lot cheaper...
