I was watchng a fly fishing show on TV about the TAPS program and Trout Unlimited's retreat on the Madison River in Montana. Its an awesome program, check it out.
During the course of the show a biologist was talking about how Montana had stopped all stocking of rainbow trout in the 1970s and it had actually improved the fishery. I'd imagine that might be true for native fisheries more than introduced ones.
Anyway, I thought that an interesting tidbit. Where we live, stocking is considered to be mandatory. Of course we don't get native recruitment like you guys do either.
