Yeah, we all know this goes on at colleges and universities, but this guy simplifies the process:

Obviously Purdue needs to take lessons. It's funny, they can't seem to ever have a good football team and basketball team at the same time. Maybe all three only have enough to "fund" one program at a time.

Ddog, from what I understand, ya'll run a pretty clean program.....it's better that you do that, than wallow in the mire with some of the illegal sports program schools.

Or be like bama, bigger than the NCAA

When you're as big and popular as Bama, you don't hafta pay players.....everyone wants to play there-----for free. ;)

Yeah, bullshit.

Does anyone think that a stipend for amateur players will make much of a difference? I am one that thinks a living stipend should be part of a scholly. And that goes for academic schollies as well as sports ones.

Think Maslow's hierarchy of needs. If you aon't heard of it look it up. Before people can aspire to more moral, intellectual, or academic levels, they first have to have their basic needs cared for. Apparently, that's what these bag men are doing.

I know it's a HUGE business and will never go away, but for the life of me, I can't understand the emphasis put on the athletic programs at our colleges and universities. Whatever happened to readin', 'rightin' and 'rithmatic? I've seen many of these "college educated" ball players give interviews and they couldn't construct a proper sentence if their life depended on it.

Oh please. You must have either been born yesterday or in the 1800s. College sports have been around as long as colleges in America.
I might agree there is WAY too much money in college sports (see: Posthole's Postulate) but as far as 'emphasis' its been around for as long as I can remember. And I quite enjoy following it thank you.

So bite me.

I never said it's anything new ... what bugs me is the importance the schools assign to those programs. A university should be a LEARNING institution first ... let the kiddies play ball at recess. ;)

If they want to play after school, head over to the "Y" or join a league. It's no wonder our educational facilities are graduating a bunch of clueless frigging idiots. :stirthepot

Thump, it's all about bragging rights.....i.e., "My pecker is bigger than your pecker".....and, the alumni at a lotta schools are willing to pay for big peckers. ;)

That money generated by the sports programs funds a lot of other things on those campuses too.

I didn't even know there was such a thing as cheer-leader scholarships, until my niece got one that paid for her full college tuition for two years.....I never could figure that kid out because she majored in Spanish, and even spent a year in Costa Rica, as an exchange student.....but, she couldn't speak a single day'um word of Spanish.....btw, she was a blonde, soooooo. ;)

I have a blonde neice that got a full ride for cheerleading. Hey it paid for her bachelors. She now has a PHD so I guess maybe it was worth it.
