Got any plans for the eclipse on Monday?

Birddog and I are planning to be in a boat on a pretty body of water fishing when it happens. Both of us just thought it'd be cool to see how stuff behaves outdoors. And of course to see what the fishies do. We'll be at about 90% where we are.

My daughter and her husband are going to someplace in Wyoming to see it that is fairly close to where they live in Colorado. I talked to someone yesterday who's going up to Kansas City to see it and someone today who is going to Columbia, Mizzou. I guess nobody plans to be working!

If anybody wants to get into it with wild injuns, Monday would be good time. You could call down the gods and so forth. Saw that in more than one B movie.

It's supposed to start here at 1:17 pm, but I have a 1:00 appointment at the VA Hospital. I'm takin' my welding helmet with me so that I can watch from the parking lot. The maximum eclipse here won't be until 2:49, so I may rush on home to watch it here. It will last until 4:14.

That said, I received this message from FedEx today (because I do a lot of shipping with them). WTF??? Is the sky falling??

I'm gonna be working. My kids schools will be having viewings though. I can remember viewing the eclipse way back in'79 at school.

Funny you mentioned that, Ddog.....I remember exactly where I was, during that Feb. 1979 eclipse.....I was helping a buddy of mine weld up a 60 ft. drain pipe in the bottom of his commercial catfish pond.....we were standing in knee-deep water(Miller DC welders, btw), and had completely forgotten about the eclipse.....it was already dark, down in the bottom of the pond, and the eclipse made it even darker.....we had to let it pass, so we could see to resume our welding.....we did get to view it, however, thru our welding helmets.

It's weird how one remembers stuff like that. ;)

From this morning's paper....

Eclipse's effects on wildlife and pets tough to predict - but it'll be good fishing, one theory indicates

If I was a CFO or somethin' I'd plan something big. Every place around here is having eclipse parties.
But, I'm not. So I'll be at work. Working for the man.

Man, my neighborhood listserv is blowing up with people looking for eclipse glasses this morning. I guess folks should have planned better.

I have a hand-held arc welding shield I gave to Lynn to take to work with her, and I have an arc welding helmet here that I'll use.

I heard Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, Harbor Freight, etc. are sold out of welding shields. They had a guy on the news who welds for a living and he broke his glass yesterday. He's tried every place in town to buy a replacement and ALL are sold out.

Went home at noon and made a projection box for my daughter and I to view the event.

Typical teenager: Had seriously limited interest in partaking but then after the viewing started she is sending pics to friends and saying how cool it was. Thanks Dad.
