I’ve not heard of a 338. What are the ballstics like?

That's what my pop-in-law used to shoot sometimes. Shoulder launched artillery. Not quite as bad as his .375 H&H, though.

I load for a buddy of mine that shoots that 338 moose hunting in Alaska

A 300 shoots a 200gr bullet at 2800fps and a 338 sends a 225gr bullet at 2800fps and the BC’s are pretty similar but where the 338 shines is with the 250gr or 300gr bullet for seriously large game like moose and grizzly.

The older I get, the less interest I have in those large calibers. If I bought another deer rifle, it'd be a .243. That's what I got my older boy for Christmas a few years back. I love to shoot it and it just plain kills whitetails better than something of its size ought to. If he wasn't a lefty, I'd probably steal it from him.

I've got a .257 Roberts like that. If I buy another deer rifle it'd be a .243 or a 7mm 08. I think cap'ns weapon of choice is a 25-06.

I like small rifles, it ain't so much what you shoot, it's where you put em

I went to the sale, but I don't buy guns anymore. This guy had close to 30 of them, all nice stuff. The prices were reasonable and all were sold within the first 4-hours (of the 3-day sale).

I love the 25.06, I own two of them but my hands down favorite is my 270WSM followed by my 257 Weatherby mag. I really want a 26 Nosler but have absolutely no need for one and doubt I ever buy one. Heck I have a 7mm mag and 300 Weatherby mag I have never even shot.
