Ha, that's an old Army trick.....when a couple of guys were arguing in the barracks, and on the verge of throwing punches, somebody would holler out, "Hey, you two assholes shut the f**k up, and go outside and measure d*cks".....sorta of a way to lighten the mood, so nobody would get their ass beat up. ;)
