how much I hate live oaks? The sorry bastages wait until I've got up all the leaves and gum balls and started mowing the yard then they drop all their leaves in one night. On top of that, the leaves are so small it's like trying to rakes marbles

I hate live oaks

They love those things down in Tejas. I never cared for them much.
I had a couple in my yard down there and they never lost their leaves once the four years I lived there.

I love them things! They grow Spanish Moss so well.
That is the Angel Oak AirBud posted. My kids climbed all over that thing when they were little.
Last time I was there they have now got signs up telling folks not to climb on it.

Yep, we had one in the neighborhood where I grew up in Orlando. It was just called "The Big Tree" (now Big Tree Park). As kids, we practically LIVED in that thing! I went back to see it about 10 years ago and found those same signs Cappy ... you'll get your arms and legs cut off then thrown in jail if you try to climb it. :(

It used to look like the one Airbud posted, but it took a major lightning strike in 1972 and it's definitely not the tree it used to be. But it's still hanging on, just as it has for the last 400 years! They also have lightning rods mounted all over the tree now ... kinda like closing the barn door after the horses escape. Here's some of the lightning damage. :(

We had a YUGE elm tree right about fifty yards off the road near the football stadium in my hometown. We sat under it in our cars and drank cheap beer.

I have always liked live oaks but I never had one in my yard so I can’t speak to that aspect of them.

Yikes! That COULD have ended very badly. :hair

Funny and I'd have probably lost my patience also, but as far as I know, the dude with the chainsaw could probably (at LEAST) be charged with reckless endangerment couldn't he?
