Ha! They've always been a bit confused. When I lived in Memphis through High School/College, all the state road signs had the state divided into the "Three States of Tennessee". I guess somewhere along the line, somebody didn't think it was p/c and you don't see it anymore. It's the same with the State flag. The three stars in the center of the Tennessee State flag represent the "Three States of Tennessee". (I think the official, technical term is "Grand Division").

I suck at historical details P-hole. I do remember Franklin was actually trying to become a State, but I think it was actually part of N. Carolina (I think?). There was a lot of turmoil in those days and I think the State of Tennessee was formed later which included the Franklin area. That may be all b/s, I just don't remember the details and would need to study up on that part of history as a refresher. TBH, I hate history ... it was one of my least favorite subjects in school. I have no clue why.
