At least that's what someone told me once, who happened to be a MCI executive at the time. He told me civilization dropped off rapidly the further you got west of the Potomoc. For some reason that stuck in my head and I chuckle about it every time I head that direction. Towards civilization. He was serious when he said it, by the way.
