I was cleaning out my office yesterday and decided it was time to get rid of a pile of "old" Cabelas catalogs that do nothing but lie around gathering dust. I piled them into a box and was getting ready to haul them outside to our recycle bin. Then the thought hit me to check eBay first. Now mind you, I don't have a VINTAGE collection of super-old books here. For years, I'd throw the old catalogs away once I received the new ones. For some reason, around 2000, I just let them pile up. Well, these things actually sell! They're not the proverbial goldmine of course, but they'll bring $10, with some of the larger ones (like the Fall or Spring Master Catalogs) going for as much as $20 or so!

As stated, not a ton of money, but it appears I have a couple hundred $$$ worth sitting here. Postage is just pennies since they'll ship under the USPS's super cheap Media Mail rates, so the profit margin is much higher than most items! What the heck, they were about 3-minutes from hitting the bottom of the recycle bin yesterday. Today, they'll help pay for our next cruise! :)

Ha ha ha! Reminds me of when I was a kid. My grandparents had years and years of NatGeo mags. I'd sneak a peek at the issues where they'd photographed African tribes with wimmins running around in nothing but grass skirts! Kids have no idea how lucky they are these days when they can find all the porn they want on their frigging cell phones. Heck, I can remember it was a major bonus to find a Playboy mag. back when the wimmins had more hair coverin' 'em "down there" than ANY bathing suit covers these days. :D

I've found that ANY mag, catalog, etc. is worth a few bucks to somebody looking for it. Generally, it all boils down to whether or not you have the time and energy to bother with listing them for the generally small return.

I made some pretty decent coinage on a set (4) of Corvette, FACTORY repair manuals a while back. Heck, they weren't old, maybe 2010 maybe. (?) They sold for $150. I try to stay away from most books, mags, etc. at the estate sales as there's generally a pretty slim margin on them. BUT ... if I have something that was free (like these Cabelas catalogs), it's hard to just throw them away even if they're not worth a ton of money.

I have the first year of The Shooting Sportsman.. 1-1.. etc. I thought they might actually be worth something.. Looked on Ebay.. not so much. ;) I wrapped them in plastic and stuck them on the shelf.. Down the road, my kids can throw them away.. along with a lot of my other valuable possessions.. ;)

I’m not generally a pack rat but I have a lot of old outdoor magazines as well. Most of the ones I have is the old Lindner era Infisherman (I cancelled when they sold out, and I can’t stand Doug Stange) and a ton of old Gray’s Sporting Journals.
They’ll prolly get thrown out when I do.
