Well, I'm dreaming about bucks like this pic, hanging on a friend's den wall.....but, so far, all I've seen is little pee-wees.....however, if the weather gets cold, one of those pee-wees will grace my smoker. ;)

Sadly I have only been out hunting once so far this year and that was for the pheasant opener. Bird numbers continue to be down but our group ended up with 18 roosters, 5 sharptails, and 4 hungarian partridge, but most of all we had a great time with old friends.

This Saturday will be our annual turkey safari but sadly there isn't very many of them around either. Birds or not, a fun time will be had by all.

What I REALLY need is to get out bow hunting but every Sunday for the past 6 or 7 weeks have been taken up with coaching the fall high school clay target league which comes to an end this Sunday.

I hear ya on the life getting in the way. I’m coaching flag football again this year and haven’t been able to get away on weekends and will likely miss our entire bow season as a result. I know I won’t regret spending time with my youngest in the long run. But, I won’t be sad when the season ends in a couple of weeks.

I kilt a button buck with my crossbow, that I thought was a mature doe that had passed earlier in the evening just out of range.
That was just AFTER I missed a realllly nice buck. I shot and the bolt from the crossbow thwacked a limb about 4 yards away.
A small button buck that you thought was a mature doe, after missing a nice buck minutes before, ain’t much to post about.

I’m going this weekend. And then ML starts 11/3, it’ll be on like donkey Kong then. (The rut that is)

I will say, that buttons loin was mmmmm hmmm good on the grill!

I've never had any deer off the grill that knocked my socks off. I much prefer to pound it tender with the edge of a saucer, roll in flour and hit the hot grease with it. Add gravy and cat head biscuits and you've got a feast for a king

Indeed a good way to go with it. However, you forgot mashed taters....

But, fresh and cooked medium, it’s hard to beat.
You just need a good grill and a good spatula.

I actually eat most of my deer steak for breakfast. Any other meal taters are a must. Although rice is a good substitute
