The biggest flathead I’ve ever caught was 25 lbs on a jug line. He about wentthree full roundswith me before we got him in the boat. I can’t imagine a 78 pounder on a rod and reel. Damn!

I was wondering if you guys were able to make your trip with all of the water up your way. It looks like a big time!
Did you bring any eaters home or was it all c&r?

We kept three 10-12# flatties to eat while we were there.. Everything else was C&R..

Dayum! Those would have been nice fish in another year or two...

We get big blues that size in some of the rivers here. But, I didn’t realize flatheads could get that big.

Well that biggest one maybe, Gene’s probably needed another 3-4 years growth to be considered a keeper

I think the current world record is a Kansas fish that came in at 123 lbs. Thats a lot of pissed off muscle. And they do get pissed off.

WOW! Beauty fish! I friggen love fishing for cats but never had a chance for those big flatties. Channel cats were the biggest species we had and they were a blast. Can only imagine what one of those brutes would feel like.

We have been to the same two lakes in Alabama three times and Texoma once. As far as "noodling".. I'd try it - but I'd avoid blues if at all possible. I stuck my hand in the 62#er's mouth during the picture session. .Most catfish have teeth like sandpaper. This sob had teeth like a dogfish and bit like a freaking crocodile.;) and I have the chewed up hand to show for it. (sniff - a little sympathy, please) :D

A fella what sticks his hand in a blue cats mouth needs sympathy for having “ questionable smarts “ at best. Little blues will cut you like a switchblade with them fins on the side too

I did some noodling below the dam at Wister Lake. when I was 15 or 16. When they weren’t letting much water out we noodled for flatheads in the rock crevices that ran crosswise across the channel. I only did it a couple of times and we only caught a few in the 5-10lb range mainly probably becausewe had no idea what we were doing. But we were entertaining ourselves, and probably others too.
It really wasn’t my cup of tea. Sticking your hands and arms in places you can’t see is not smart, I don’t care who ya are.

Speaking of fishing, the crappie spawn is in full swing down here, and I've been sneaking off a couple of afternoons to a few of my honey holes. ;)10584

On a positive note, I reconnected with a cousin of mine this weekend that has a two acre pond full of stunted white perch due to being too many in there. He asked if I’d help him reduce the population this spring. I told him to let me check my schedule and see if I could finagle some time to help him out

It’s a dirty job but I’m the guy if you need drudge work done

We've always called 'em Fallfish.

I think officially it’s a “white sucker”. When I was a kid we just called them “wall fish” because we just threw them against a stone wall behind where we fished and left them for the coons.
