hunt morels? I see by FB they are finding them in the Carolinas and OK. We're in good shape for moisture this year - but has to warm up.. I'd guess we're two weeks off at best.. edit.. (this damned place and its pictures :( )

I’ve seen a few in the woods and eaten them a couple of times when some old timer who knew what he was doing hunted them up. I still don’t quite trust myself on it though. “Ramp” season is kicking in and I love me some ramps.

If you ever start up an Etsy page and start selling those walking sticks, let me know. Those are very cool.

We are in the same boat here HH. Had the moisture just need some warmer temps and they will start popping.

Chick, morels are the one mushroom I am sure of when I find them in the woods. Those and giant puffballs in later summer.

Love the sticks. Really cool. I used to enjoy hunting morels when I’d be in Ohio for turkey season, but haven’t been there for years now. My son is HUGE into ‘shroom hunting and drags in stuff that looks like I’d be afraid to TOUCH, much less actually eat! He usually cooks ‘em up, but also runs a lot through his dehydrator to use later. I’m like CD, I like it if I’m with someone who knows what they’re doing, but me personally? I don’t know the difference between a mushroom and a toadstool, but like DD said, I DO know a morel when I see one. Only because that’s what I used to hunt in Ohio. Other than that, the only ‘shrooms I’m sure of, come out if a can or the produce section of the grocery store.

Make a roast beef with fresh ramps on Sunday. It was very tasty. I expect the shrooms to be up soon. We've got some warm weather lined up for a spell now.

We had a patch of ramps in one spot in our back yardback home and I can still remember the smell when I mowed that shit down!

I have one of the world's simplest roast beef recipes. You would not believe how good the ramps taste if you put them in the bottom of the pan with very little water and let them carmelize in the drippings from the roast.

My uncle planted my patch back in the 70s. Why he chose to do so at the bottom of the steepest grade on the place is anyone's guess. 😊

Found a bunch of morels while bear hunting a couple of years ago. The dudes from Minnesota were all excited so we brought them back, cooked them up, and ate them. All I can say is...ehh, not sure what the big deal is.

Neat walking sticks Gene.

Don’t tell me, let me guess .... morels don’t excite you, but lutefisk does, correct?

Yankees are kind’a weird. :)
