P-hole, racism is different through some eyes I suppose. I just don't know where the line is drawn anymore. Does Colonel Sanders get the boot next because he gives the "impression" he's a Confederate soldier and it brings up bad memories of slavery? It's f'ing ridiculous. I have never, ever, in my life looked at a bottle of Aunt Jemima syrup and thought ANYTHING but it's a bottle of syrup. BUT, it does hold a bit of nostalgia as it's just something I grew up with and it's always been around.

Ha! I remember when I first moved out to California, there was a chain of restaurants out there called Sambo’s. There were images of Sambo and other characters from the book (tigers) painted on the walls, but of course, there were complaints and something like 1000-1500 restaurants closed down. I don’t know how many states they were in. The odd thing is, the kid in the images was actually Indian (as in from India), but the big stink was he was perceived to be black just because of the name. Go figure. The name actually came from combining a part of the two founders last names ... Sam Battistone Sr. and Newell Bohnett. The protests and accusations put the whole chain out of business.

From Wiki: In the latter half of the 1970s, pressure began to mount on the chain to change its name, drawing protests and lawsuits in communities that viewed the term Sambo as pejorative towards black Americans.

Growing up in Florida, I'd make money during the summers working on the charter fishing boats going out of Daytona. Rich Yankees would come down from up north and charter their fishing trips. I'd work the deck chumming and keeping the clients lines baited. There was a bit of a learning curve at first, but after 2 summers as an apprentice, I became a Master Baiter. :)
