Scouting the night before the opener resulted in spotting 15 antelope and about 70 mule deer. Not the preferred ratio but we did see a couple of decent pronghorn bucks.

Met up with the other couple the next morning while trying to relocate choice #1 from the night before and the fun began.

So, does Bwana think that’s a mule deer, or a pronghorn? No wonder he’s reluctant to post a trip report.

One of those polled pronghorn it looks like. I heard they aren’t as sagey.

This last goat was the biggest we saw while scouting Thursday evening but we were not able to locate him on Friday when the season opened. Because we were not able to locate him, my wife decided the goat she DID spot opening morning that had the heart-shaped horns was the one she wanted to take...so she did just that during the "refreshing" rain that came out of the blue that morning.

They both appear to be happy with the outcome.

Saturday morning we were able to finally locate "Lefty" and wouldn't you know it, he was now in the same field my wife had killed her buck in the day before.

Long story short, my friend's wife was able to put Lefty down after a bit of effort.

In the end, both of the ladies were very happy with how the hunt turned out.

Sunday morning I went out to try to get a mule buck with my bow but the big guy I spotted shortly after sunup gave me the slip in the buttes. Found a young buck instead that came by my hiding place at 50 yards but he ducked the shot so I didn't have to work about hauling him out of the hills. Though I failed to get the muley it was fun to be out in God's great countryside, watching the morning progress, and trying to outwit some cool critters with a stick and string in hand.

We had a great time, saw some awesome country, both whitetail and mule deer, coyotes, sharptails grouse, canadian geese, ducks, and broods of young pheasants.

Many thanks to the landowners who allowed us access to their posted property, to those whose land wasn't posted, and to the government land that is open to all of us!

Can't wait to get back out there sometime soon.

Next year he’s gonna have to give her a scope with crosshairs. Then he’ll have to up his game.

Actually Posthole, I just bought the spotting scope and she was more than a bit skeptical on the need for it given how much it cost even though when I was hesitating to buy it, she specifically told me that if I didn't buy it she was going to go down and buy the most expensive scope Scheels has. (I should have called her bluff on that one.)

Anyway after she got around to figuring out how to take pictures through it using my cell phone, she flat out told me that it is now HER scope!
