I heard somewhere that it's a good idea to run a tank of premium fuel thru your vehicle every couple of months.....I actually filled up with premium, today, and do that occasionally.
However, is there any truth to that being beneficial to my vehicle, or am I just wasting that 60 cents per gallon
cost difference ???

Simple answer. Waste of money.

I don't know the answer but I've never done it and always went with the though I rarely keep a vehicle over 7 years. So far I haven't had any real engine trouble so always figured it wasn't worth it. I just keep up with regular maintenance.

I think that suggestion started making the rounds when someone claimed premium fuel had more additives (detergents) than lower grade fuels, so an occasional tank of premium will clean your fuel system, injectors, etc. Don’t buy into it.

Dang, I have to admit I've never even looked at the price of premium gas since my last Corvette. Is it really a 60-cent/gal. difference? Wow! If it makes you feel better, pick up a bottle of STP fuel treatment at Wally World for $1.50 every couple months. That's 10% of the EXTRA you'd pay for a tank of premium. (still a waste of money though)

Techron or similar fuel system cleaner once in a while.

What engines are made to burn premium these days anyway?

Many of your luxury and performance cars (and most anything with a turbo) use premium, but you'd be surprised at the "unexpected" (or "regular") models that require premium.

Example:

Buick Envision (with 2.0L turbo)
Buick Regal (all models)
Buick Regal TourX (all models)
Chevrolet Equinox (with 2.0-L turbo)
Chevrolet Malibu (with 2.0-L turbo)
Fiat 500L (all models)
GMC Terrain (with 2.0-L turbo)
Honda Civic (with 1.5-L turbo)
Kia Stinger (all models)
MINI Cooper (all models)
MINI Clubman (all models)
MINI Countryman (all models)
Mitsubishi Outlander (with 3.0-L V6)
Nissan Maxima (all models)
Volkswagen Arteon (all models)

Just throw a can of Sea Foam in it you'll be fine

I had a mid 90’s Crown Vic as a police car that would knock and run on if I didn’t run a tank of premium through it every few tanks.

Other than that, I’ve never ran anything but regular gas through my vehicles without any trouble.
