I was going to post a meme in reply to the first post when I thought " You know, this isn't funny anymore." Memes are humour and there is no humour left in what is happening to your country and mine as well. Calling someone a 'Nazi' just because they don't agree with you is dangerous. You need to stop this shit, it's not funny anymore.

Meh. There’s plenty of name calling from both sides from where I sit. At least meme’s poke some fun at the absurdity of both parties. You’ve just gotta be able to laugh at the absurdity of both R’s and D’s.

So here we sit, with so many conspriacy theories and stories swirling around us. One story has ita that the banks are about to be nationalized, that Trump will declare martial law, that the cellular network will be taken down today, that most high level democrats and those republicans who weren’t loyal to Trump will be swept up in a huge dragnet soon after, that the Chinese invented 5G and turned their towers towards Wuhan and created the coronavirus, that the whole Coronavirus pandemic was simply a democratic plot to control our behavior, that there’s micochips in the masks we’re being asked (made) to wear, that there will be military courts and tribunals because the judicial system can’t be trusted, and that the fencing around the Capitol isn’t to keep people out, its a trap to keep people in!, and that Trump will eventually be inaugurated as president. Just as soon as he gets all of the above taken care of.
This isn’t funny and it offends me. Because its been told as facts to honest people and I can name you three people I know personally that believe all of the above. That’s what is going on in MY country that is disgusting. If you aren’t disgusted and repelled by this intentional level of misinformation and the results its producing, then you are part of it.

It's true I tell ya'! I KNOW it is because it's all over Twitter!

Recent posts from a QAnon-backing Twitter handle with nearly 50,000 followers claimed that tens of thousands of Chinese troops had amassed along Maine’s border with Canada and that an F-16 fighter that crashed last week in Michigan was actually shot down — presumably by the Chinese.

Heck, they even have a photo of the response by the U.S. military as they're moving tanks to the Canadian border!

At 3 am this morning, I actually thought the revolution had started.....I had a big tractor battery on a trickle charger in my shop, and it decided to explode for some reason.....it was actually strong enough to rattle the windows in our bedroom.....I ran out to the shop, and it was filled with a fog of noxious fumes.....nothing I could do until the fumes dissipated, so I just went back to bed.....I'm sure the floor is gonna be a real mess.

Wow! That's scary stuff Muddy. Many years ago and I'm talking roughly 60 years ago (I was 8-10 years old), we had a neighbor who was jumping his wife's car off with a pair of jumper cables. I don't know if he reversed the poles or if the battery had just built up a lot of gas and a spark ignited it, but it blew up in his face. I honestly don't remember what happened to him but I do remember it also got into his eyes. TBH, I remember it happening, but nothing after that. Weird.

BarryBobPosthole

I’ve never had a battery blow up but I’ve worked around a ton of big lead acid batteries in my career and they always got my utmost respect when we had to work on them.

Glad you were in the fart sack when it happened Muddy!

This is actually a serious question CD, because I think we have kids around the same age. I have one 22 and one 17 (Jr year HS). The 22 I've already paid for college, and was planning on the second too. That being said since its now potentially free what are your thoughts? Have the second one get school loans in case it is paid for? We couldn't get that lucky right?

I’ve got a Junior in college and a Junior in high school. So, we’re right in the same place tuition wise. I was mostly being tongue in cheek as I have no real expectation that there is ever going to be free tuition for the upper middle class. You do raise a good question though. I may have to put some thought into how that might work.

You’re both idiots (CD and Hombre), and I mean that in the most non political and loving way. Right!

Biden has never endorsed ‘free college’ or the across the board loan forgiveness plans the far left has proposed. Biden wants to make getting associate degrees part of a public education program. That’s it. So no. Your kids will have to pay forwhat they and you signed onthe dotted line for.

Actually, they did. But I went to college straight out of high school ... hadn't entered the service yet. TBH, that was one of my "incentives". They came out with the draft lottery the year before I graduated h/s and I had a low number (guaranteed to be drafted). I figured, screw working to pay for college out of pocket, I'll get the military out of the way (IF I lived through it), then go back to school on THEIR dime.

Problem is, I came home married and had to go to work to pay the rent. I never did get a degree OR use that G.I. Bill. :crybaby

Ditto. It was my usual luck. They came out with the draft lottery and the only two years they used it was for guys born in 1951 and those born in 1952. My (adopted) brother's birthday was July 1951 and mine was January 1952. What are the odds?

He was attending the Univ. of Southern Mississippi, quit and joined the Coast Guard, finished training and received orders for Hawaii. (where he spent his whole 4-year tour!)

I was attending the Univ. of Tennessee, quit and joined the Army, finished training and received orders for Vietnam! (what's wrong with THAT picture?) :banghead

It tells me your brother might have got the brains!

Julie and I attended a wedding aboard a big sailboat in Key West once. The groom, best man, and groomsmen were all Coasties. We got evacuation orders because of a hurricane coming our way and we had a rental car so we bugged out to Fort Lauderdale to catch a plane hone. That drive on A1A at 10mph the whole way is a whole nother story. We gave a lift to one of the Coasties who was headed to Hawaii for his first assignment out of tech school or whatever they call their officer training school. He was a deisel/power plant engineer and knew his damn shit. An officer obviously, with an engineering degree.
Anyway, I was impressed with those kids. They all had promising careers ahead of them and a place to get amazing work experience too.

BarryBobPosthole

Kenzi isn’t your average bear either.

This is a sticky wicket for me. I think the program you’re talking about is an honest to goodness great one. I’m not sure federalizing it across the board is though. And I’m not sure federally funding will make it happen with any consistency either. So there is that. To me the best solution is for the feds to create a path for states to get best practices help from other states and provide targeted help that states have to wualify for to get. I’m sure the tech corridoryou live in hassomething to do with it as well. As you well know, those opportunities just don’t exist here. What came first in Washington state? The job demand or the education opportunities?

Actually, I "thought" I'd pulled the brainiac move. Coasties ... as well as ALL the other branches BUT the Army, require a 4-year hitch. The Army was only 3 years. I thought it was a no-brainer and joined the Army!

Problem was, once I took the entrance exam, I was pulled aside and asked to go into Mil. Intel. The mental image of a sports car, cool little weapons and a hot chick hanging on my arm, sucked my ass right in. I had brief thoughts of changing my last name though. For some reason, saying, "Kribbs .... James Kribbs" just didn't sound all that cool. Anyway, I gladly signed on the dotted line, then was informed, since spy school required extensive training, the hitch was 4 FRIGGING YEARS!! Maybe my bro DID have the brains afterall. :banghead

Honestly though, as it turned out, I wouldn't trade my stint in the military for all the tea in China. The lifelong friendships established and the experience itself is pretty much priceless imho. Without that lottery hanging over my head, I'd have never in a bazillion years even considered going into the military.

XL cancellation will cost some 60K jobs, most of them in the U.S. but also a real kick in the nuts for my old province of Alberta. Very old and good friend of ours will probably lose her company over this. They were struggling with covid but XL would have kept them afloat. This cancellation will probably be the end. Real people not ideologies. Why cancel XL - to appease a few green meanies? Bad decision for both our countries and just the beginning.
