the 1984 version needed to be a little more compact and it would have been fantastic. In the words of Ranch Wilder "less is more".

That’s the problem when you try to fit any Herbert story into a movie. They’re just too broad.

Sting as Feyd Rautha was brilliant in that version.

Dune is my number 1 favourite sci fi book and I looked forward with great expectation when the 1984 movie was announced. Unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. Way too campy though I should have expected that, I suppose, from Lynch. Hope that the new version actually treats the story with some seriousness and isn't goofy.

There was a mini series back in 2000 with William Hurt that was better than the movie. Worth a watch, anyway, if you can find it.

I haven’t seen that one. I’ll look for it.

I’m a big Frank Herbert fan.

Just finished re reading the Gaea trilogy by Varley and thought what a great mini series it would make considering the state of CGI nowadays. Lots of interesting critters, sex and action. Would be better than GOT since the end is already written and they couldn't screw it up.
