Tomorrow is opening day for firearm deer season in Indiana.

I’ve got my gear ready and I’m all set to get out in the morning.

Had a big change in the weather the past two days. Early in the week it was sunny and mid 50’s. Yesterday a front went through with 45 MPH winds that are still in the 10-15 MPH range and the temp has fallen into the 30’s with some snow flurries. It didn’t stick on the ground, but my deck was dusted. Calling for highs in the upper 30’s tomorrow with snow flurries.

Opening day in Arkansas too. I haven’t even bought a hunting license this year. I guess age has finally caught up with me. I’ve got friends that give me plenty of meat so there’s no pressure to kill one.

I guess I’ll sleep in and drink coffee in the morning

It's Monday here, I think this is 55 years in a row for me. Headed out with #3.
Good luck to all you Bozoo's.

Nasty weather today. Temp was ok, mid to high 30’s, but the wind was 15-20 MPH all day and it was blowing a rain/snow mix.

Did see a few deer but they were all does. Guess I’ll have to try again tomorrow.

I had every kind of weather possible: sun, clouds, wind, calm, rain, sleet and even a few snow flakes. Saw deer - but all does.

Another day of seeing nothing but does. Too early in the season to shoot one of those yet.

The weather was a bit colder, but less wind and all snow instead of rain/snow mix.

This is the view from my stand as the snow started. At times it was snowing hard enough that I could just make out the trees on that side of the field. We ended up with just over an inch of snow by early afternoon.

What’s your annual limit on does, DD? They encourage taking does here. I haven’t kept up with it much but they’ve been pretty liberal with depredations tags as well.

The deer bag limits are pretty liberal.

A hunter can buy 2 Archery/Crossbow licenses and take one doe and one either sex with those licenses.

They can also buy 1 firearms license for an antlered deer only and also buy anywhere from 1-3 bonus antlerless licenses depending on the county they are hunting. My county has a bonus limit of 2.

Then they can buy a muzzleloader license that allows them to take 1 either sex.

Indiana also has a “one buck” rule, so if you take an antlered deer in the early Archery season you can only take antlerless from then on.

So I guess the simplest answer is that a hunter can anywhere from 4-6 does (antlerless) and 1 buck a year.

This does not include some special reduction zones where there is a bag limit of 10 and also the depredation permits issued to landowners.
