I bought a Whirlpool washer, dryer set when we bought our house in 1989. Both have worked flawlessly until a few years back when a lightning strike fried the dryer. Insurance replaced it, but we still have the original washer. Well, last week I figured the old girl finally gave up the ghost and was ready to haul to the dump. BUT, I decided to research the problem and found it’s extremely common, as well as an easy and inexpensive repair. (The 2-piece agitator appeared to be junk and the top piece just spins like it’s broken away from the main agitator)
Well, I found a YouTube video showing me the problem and how to fix it. I ordered the parts on Amazon and had them the next day. I just spent a whopping 20 minutes disassembling and reassembling the agitator to replace the agitator dogs (cogs) and it works like new! Damn, that dang 33 year old Whirlpool may out last me!
