I’ve been contemplating buying a couple of ebikes, but have never ridden one. Ok, I rented a couple for Lynn and me this morning and just riding from the bike shop to the car (about 100 feet) to pick up some bottled water, I was sold! I NEED one’a these puppies! Took a 3-mile ride to the beach, then went about 10 miles total on the beach, then back to the shop. It’s now time for some serious shopping.

I'm debating buying one myself. My son has only had his a couple months and he already has nearly 1000 miles on it. He just leaves his fancy Ford-150 Custom parked. He has only put gas in his pickup once this month. Methinks there is something to these e-bikes.

This Feller took off out of Dollar General parking lot the other day on a bicycle and I thought, Oh No!, and then Zoom he was gone and he didn't even touch the pedal?...WTF?

B/S, my brother got into these things years ago, but TBH, I just shook my head and wrote it off to the fact he’s lived in NORTHERN California for the past 50 years and his mind has been poisoned! ;)

But, I’ve been seeing them more and more around the campgrounds and figured with my physical condition (multiple back surgeries and more scheduled this year) and Lynn’s new sciatica condition, it might be something worth taking a closer look. The market is literally exploding and the choices are pretty overwhelming. Making a decision hinges on how you will use them. You can drive a SmartCar or a Rolls Royce. These bikes actually run from $900 to $15,000, so you can imagine the options you have between those price points. Making a decision is a daunting experience and I’ve already changed my mind as to what I think I want, about elebenty-bazillion times!

Will you get one with a basket? And do they make a trike?

The rental place yesterday threw in the basket and it was worth its weight in gold. Where else would we keep our four bottles of water, two cable locks, cell phones, Lynn’s sweatshirt (she freezes if the temp drops below 80-degrees) and we had a nice map with all the bike trails marked out. Yeah, it would have been looked at as a sissy basket in my youth, but it was a much appreciated accessory.

BTW, Hilton Head is a bike rider’s Mecca. It’s like they have more bike paths than roads! There’s really nowhere you can’t go on a bike on the island.

On our 12-mile long and five-mile wide Island, we have:

6 miles of bike lanes
117 miles of shared-use pathways
108 miles of paved shared-use paths
14 miles of planned pathways
1 mile of single track
24% of arterial streets have bike lanes or paved shoulders

They added bike paths to most of the streets in my little town a few years ago and you’d have thought we put up a sign that said ‘Welcome Communists”. People actually ride bikes now around town, but they’d best wear a helmet around here.

don't use the word arterial when talking about old fat men on bicycles
