It looks like I’m not the only one who’s been MIA around here lately.

Our exchange student arrived Friday night. We had to drive to Detroit to pick her up, which is about a 2 hour drive, but it’s not too bad to get in and out of there.

Here she is at the airport with my kids.

She is a sweetheart and seems like she will be a great fit in the family. Her name is Melina and she is from Berlin.

On Monday, our friends from Pennsylvania came for a short visit and while we were out to dinner with them and my in-laws, my mother-in-law had a stroke. Luckily it was just a TIA and as of now, you can’t tell that anything ever happened. In fact, within an hour she was back to normal and giving my father-in-law hell about her being at the hospital.

According to the neurologist, it looks like she has had some other small TIA’s before but not to the extent of the one Monday night.

Then, in addition to everything else that’s been going on, what we thought were just my son’s allergies may be Covid. My daughter started with a sore throat which he didn’t have, but since she has always been susceptible to strep throat, I took them to an urgent care this morning. They both tested negative for strep and Covid but the symptoms are exactly what the doctor has been seeing with Covid so they are treating it as “suspected Covid” and they are out of school until next week. We did manage to get Melina out for a boat ride over the weekend despite the weather being cold and rainy.

Congrats on getting that accomplished! Wow! What an introduction you gave her ... a stroke and two cases of Covid. Welcome to America and your new family Melina!

That's cool and I hope she has a great time while here.

Remember, she’s only 16 and was sitting up there with my 17 year old daughter.

Your family is going to remember this year forever. What a great thing to do.

Wasn’t Bwana hosting an exchange student this year too?

The chaos that has been going on lately finally took a couple of days off so she got to experience a couple of firsts this weekend. Friday night she had her first experience with high school football. She had no idea what was happening but she loved it, then we finally had a day with decent weather so we were able to take her tubing for her first time.
