… if you’re ever in Memphis. Lynn had flown out of St. Louis to go home and check out the house after the hurricane, and I picked her up in Memphis yesterday afternoon. (I spent the day with Elvis while awaiting her flight)

As for Elvis, I was killing time awaiting Lynn’s flight to arrive and Graceland is only about 5-mins from the airport, so I spent the whole day doing the “tourist thing”. TBH, my number one desire was to see this old girl again.

This is the car Elvis bought for his mom, even though she never drove …. this car, or any other car … as she never even had a driver’s license! I’d been to Graceland many, many times as a “kid”, but never as a tourist. I’m probably one of very few people who have ever driven this car as it just sat at the mansion. After his mom’s death, it stayed there as a sort of memorial to her.

I’d go out to Graceland and pick it up every 6-months or so and bring it in for service, then return it. I usually dealt with Col. Parker, but occasionally Elvis would be there.

Anyway, Graceland is NOT the “must-do” I mentioned. Lynn and I have been to Memphis many times and it’s become sort of a ritual to hit the Rendezvous while there.

I used to take dates here as a kid.

There were no leftovers.

We’ll be heading for Vicksburg later today and will spend a few days there, but before leaving Memphis, we’ll be stopping for lunch at another traditional stop for us when here. We never, EVER miss stopping at Gus’ for the second best fried chicken in the country. (We’ll be having the #1 best once we hit New Orleans) [emoji6][emoji106]

Gus’ for lunch!! [emoji106]

This man knows his chicken! Many years ago I took a trip to New Orleans and thump gave me a suggestion. Willie Mae's was the suggestion. This place was an experience. First, the "restaurant" was one building, really a house, surrounded by a residential neighborhood. Second, you walked in and had to make sure you didn't go ass or tea kettle from the slippery, greasy floor. The setting was just perfect, kit felt like you were eating chicken in grandmas kitchen. On top of it all the food was amazing.

Yessir, we NEVER miss a visit to Willie Mae’s when in NO, and this time will be no different. That’s the (personal) #1 rating I referred to above. [emoji106]

You’ll see lots of white folk in a VERY black neighborhood here. [emoji6]

We’ll we hit Gus’ for lunch before leaving Memphis. After an appetizer order of fried okra and another of fried green tomatoes, Lynn and I ordered 6 breasts (to take a couple back to the motorhome for a “midnight snack” tonight!

My brother and SIL just ordered a 3-piece plate (wimps) and split it. Man-o-man, Gus’ did not disappoint.
