Keep it up. That looks like a great retirement project. Should keep you busy for quite awhile.

maybe you should try a side grinder or some navel jelly

Got no jelly in my navel, just lint. If I did have jelly, would it be lint jelly?

Not sure about Canuckian lint, but mine would be jelly-belly lint.

aluminum jelly will work as well if you don't have any jelly in your navel........just keep it out of your eyes

A hammer or mallet work in any minor dents…

Looks like an amazing project ... that body appears to be rust free!

Dead body was found in it. Got it for $500.

I've always loved Corvettes .... prolly started at childhood as my dad had a 1953 'Vette. I barely remember it, but actually do remember minor details about the car and actually remember riding in it (I was born in '52!). He bought it almost new as it was a bank repo after the owner bought it new from the dealer, then failed to make the payments. The first 'Vette I bought was a '93 (the 40th anniversary model), paid it off in 5 years and immediately traded it for a '98 model. It then became a checkmark on my bucket list and I walked away from Corvettes for good. BTW, in case you ever get asked this in a trivia question, there was no 30th anniversary model as there's no such thing as a 1983 Corvette ... they skipped from 1982 (C3) to 1984 (C4).

How 'bout a test for any of you amateur Corvette aficionados here. Going by the pic above (limited details shown), what year Corvette is P-hole's new project car? I don't mean the body style designation, ie; C6: 2005 – 2013 for example, but the actual model year? P.S. I know the answer, so don't try to b/s me. :)

Good shot, but … no sir.

Am I in the right decade?

Recessed tail lights, no rear nerf type chrome bumper, and the round fuel access door on the rear deck make me think this is/was around a ‘75 Vette.Of course I’m not a vette person, but I always thought that was about the time GM effed them up.

Wasn’t a huge fan of 70’s era vettes. ‘63 has for a long time been my favorites.

Well, I don't want to spoil the "fun" by narrowing it down TOO far, but Hombre is probably closest .... although, in a way, P-hole is even closer. (figure THAT one out)

What are the odds his next guess is ‘83 or ‘86?

You’re not paying attention. There’s no such animal as an ‘83 Corvette.

Ok, throw in your final answers for the prize winnings. I’ve left the VA doctor, Lynn and I went out for a late lunch and she’s picking up a few items in the store right now as I wait in the parking lot. I’ll tell you dufes why you’ve been shot down when I get home. If nobody wins with the new (obvious guesses), you’ll all receive participation trophy’s even though you’re a bunch’a losers.

Didn’t they go with the square taillights by 87?

Deppity, the squared taillights didn't kick in until 1990.

Well, P-hole's guess of '75, then referring to the "era of the 70's", is a pretty broad sweep ... so his "answer" goes directly into the round file. His ONLY saving grace is that he's within the correct generation (C3). There will be no bragging rights issued though, as the C3 series ran for 15 years! (I really thought he'd know since this is HIS project car) ;)

C1: 1953 – 1962.
C2: 1963 – 1967.
C3: 1968 – 1982.
C4: 1984 – 1996.
C5: 1997 – 2004.
C6: 2005 – 2013.
C7: 2014 – 2019.
C8: 2020 –

So, all youse dufes who guessed anything newer than 1983 aren't even in the correct generation and the cars have totally different body styles (although they're kind'a close with just a rear shot). I suppose Bwana is the closest with his 1978 entry and he's at least within the correct (C3) generation.

Now for the kicker. I have no clue what year it is ... well, the PERSACT year anyway. BUT, that said, thanks to my well trained eye, I know it's either an '80 or '81. If there were more pics. I could narrow it down to one year, but with this rear shot, there's no way to get it any closer (that I'm aware of). IF, I could see the gas door emblem better, I'd know for sure as the emblem on the '80 has a chrome casting with the flag inserts and the '81 has a black casting (with a thinner edge) and flag inserts. The '82's and up had a totally different emblem. Notice there are no door handles visible ... the C3's had a push-in type handle on the top rear edge of the door. Also, you can see this car has a T-top ... the last t-top was '82, after that they went to a Targa top (one piece). The pictured car has C3 side marker lamps and are totally different on the C4's. The side (door) mirrors are also a totally different shape from C3 to C4. But what narrows it down to an '80-'81? The pre-1981 C3's had black rubber bumper pads on the rear bumper. Now, IF this car had had a (factory) 2-tone paint job, it would have been an '81 as that was the year they moved production from St. Louis to Bowling Green, Kentucky and the first year a 2-tone paint job was offered (as an option) ... so I'm back to '80 or '81.

If anybody here can show me how to narrow it down to a single year from P-hole's pic, I'd love to learn something new! ;)

Note: As stated above, my dad owned a C1 ('53) when I was a kid and I've personally owned a C4 ('93) and a C5 ('98).
