This truck showed up one morning, parked on the street between my house and the next door neighbor. We have a very quiet neighborhood and there’s only one way in and out of the small subdivision, plus I live on a cul-de-sac. Needless to say, the ONLY traffic through here is residents. There are only 4 houses on the cul-de-sac, plus the two at the front.

Anyway, I got up one morning and saw this truck parked. I figured someone was visiting a neighbor, but it’s really not in front of ANYBODY’S house. I noticed it hadn’t moved in a couple weeks, so I started asking around to all the neighbors. Nobody knew who it belonged to! I did find one neighbor who saw it get parked. She said a guy pulled up, parked it, then someone in a separate car stopped and picked him up. They left together. Sounds like a dumped, stolen car to me, so I called the Sheriff to check it out.

They were here within 10-15 mins. on a Friday night, so I found that impressive. I spoke to the deputy and he ran the plates, but it did not come back as stolen. BUT, it’s parked on a public street and the MISSISSIPPI plates expired in 10/2022. He left an official notice (looks like a ticket, but not) that said the vehicle would be towed if not removed within 2 days.

Ok, at that point, it had been parked there for at least 2 weeks. 4-5 days later, we left for California and it was still there at that time. We returned Saturday after 2 weeks in L. A. and as of this morning, it’s still here! I think it’s been sitting around 1-1/2 to 2 months now.

I don’t know what year it is, but it’s pretty straight with a couple of small boo-boos here and there. It appears neither the owner nor the Sheriff’s Dep’t gives a shit, so if you need a nice beater hoopty or a farm truck, come and get it! [emoji1787]

It has dark tinted windows, so I don’t know what the interior looks like. I haven’t touched the truck, but for all I know, the keys may be in it. If you want it, I’d like it out of my front yard! [emoji6]

I just took these pics this morning. No bad smells and no fluids dripping out under the doors. Come and get it!

P-hole, the neighbor’s house (and front door) faces southwest toward the main street and mine faces northwest. It’s parked on the property line between the two houses, so it’s quite a walk to either of our doors. (I have a 1-acre lot) The neighbor said the guy who drove it here, was followed by another car. He parked the truck, jumped into the car and they left together, never to be seen again. I’m wondering if the registered owner even knows it’s missing? Who knows?

Its a Florida thing I guess. I did a site survey at the Port Charlotte airport in about ‘77 and there were three or four DC3s that were landed and abandoned. It was just a hick town airstrip in those days. The airport manager said they were popular itemsat the sheriff’s auction.

A DC-3 was the first commercial airliner I ever flew in. Cool planes. I think 90% of the survivors ended up flying drugs out of Columbia. You could land those things in a frigging cow pasture.

Thereused to be a regional carrier here that flew Tulsa-Fort Smith-Fayetteville-Little Rock every. Oneoftheir planes was a purple DC3. A little roughbut it was a funfliht. Free champagne and beer and the stewswore hot pants.
Those were the days! This was about 1983.

I spent over 3 years in beautiful S. E. Asia during ‘Nam, and never left until I was getting out of the service. When I was ready to come home (ETS), I took a gov’t vehicle to Bangkok and had a CIVILIAN flight home (PanAm). Man-o-man, hot stews (back in the days when they were REQUIRED to be young and good looking), as well as nice hot meals served.

We left Bangkok and the next thing I knew, we were landing in Guam (I figured to refuel?). A danged Jeep with General’s flagging whipped up to the plane, a couple MP’s boarded and they called out my name. They pulled me off that cushy flight and zipped me over to General “Whatshisface”, escorted me into the office and left. In the meantime, my flight was departing.

The General told me I was the only one, passing through Guam within the next 72 hours, who had a security clearance high enough to transport a certain package to General Mucky-muck in Hawaii. (I had the highest clearance that existed at that time - Top Secret Crypto. I informed him I’d already been debriefed and he said, “Well, consider yourself RE-briefed!” (So much for military protocol :) ) I was given a briefcase, a .45 to strap on my waist, a crappy box lunch and escorted to an awaiting C141 along with orders to let NOBODY board that aircraft in Hawaii until the General relieved me of the “package”. I spent the flight strapped into one of those fold-down web seats on the side of the fuselage with just the flight crew and myself aboard.

I delivered the package as ordered and spent an extra day in Hawaii, until catching my flight to Oakland, Ca. to process out. To this day, I have no idea what was in that briefcase. Thinking back, they never debriefed me after I’d been “re-briefed” either! :) (they did make me return the .45 though) :(

Did you ever figure out the dodge p/u story? Did it get towed?
