Lynn and I had an appointment this morning, right down the street from our favorite little hole-in-the-wall chicken/fish joint. And when I say hole-in-the-wall, I mean hole-in-the-wall! It’s take-out only … a drive-thru and a walk-up window. It’s in the deepest, darkest part of town (if you know what I mean), but they have the best fried chicken/fish in town. So, we stopped by on the way home and I picked up a pound of chicken gizzards (best I’ve ever had ANYWHERE) and Lynn got a fish sammich. What’s that word we use around this joint? Larrupin? to heck with gravy, those need Loozianna hot sauce. Best fried gizzards I’ve ever had were from a gas station in Pine Bluff, Ark. And chicken gizzards are about the only innards I’ll eat. Good stuff!

I’m with you P-hole. Funny you should mention it. They always ask at the window if we want hot sauce and we get a handful of those little packets thrown in. Normally, on the short drive home, while they're still smokin' hot, Lynn will hand feed some gizzards to me as I drive, but it’s a hassle using those little packets. So today, she went prepared with a little glass bowl and a bottle of Louisiana Hot Sauce! When we got the the pick-up window, the owner asked if we wanted hot sauce, but Lynn held up the bottle and said, “No thanks, we came prepared!” The owner got a kick out of it. :)

A converted Arkansas Yankee? Or would that make him a Canuckian transplant?

It's not?

Hot sauce has it's place in Haute cuisine but not on fried meats unless it's a spicy brown gravy. Geez, a fellow tries to bring a little culture to the heathens of the world and all he gets is abuse

Which brings up a question. Is a gizzard really “meat”? ;)

I'll eat the gizzard, liver or hearts. I'll even eat chitlins but I don't do brains or kale. There's somethings even a amateur gourmand won't eat

Looks tasty but I suspect if I ate like that regular I'd weigh 300 pounds by now lol. My wife says if there was any justice I'd have exploded years ago. 😊

Well, I still have a ways to go … I’m only at 295. ;)

I forgot to mention, they pressure cook the gizzards and they almost melt in your mouth.

It’s just a little local joint and the old (surprisingly) white guy who owns it, has been there for 42 years. It’s a pretty rough neighborhood, probably 90% (or more) black, but they look out for him as he supports the community around the neighborhood. He feeds the homeless (gratis) in the area. I think if anyone messed with the old guy (in his late 70’s) or the business, the neighborhood vigilantes would dish out their own type of justice. The worry is, what will happen to the place if the old guy retires or health issues kick in? There are no family members interested in the place. There is one woman who has worked there since the day he opened, so I wouldn’t doubt she’d possibly end up with the place if anything should happen to him, but I have no clue really. I know we’d sure miss it if it were to disappear. :(

You need to get over to Mac's BBQ in Skiatook..... Best baloney sandwich in Oklahoma...make sure they put the hot links on it too.
