OK, so... the Costa Rica Game.... that was cool. Props to the Costa Ricans for playing thru to the end.

The Mexico game tomorrow? Man o man o man o man...

A buddy of mine is there to watch the game tomorrow. People keep saying we don't have a chance in that stadium. I say BULLSHIT! We can whip their asses there!

If we can get a one goal lead before the 2nd half, or draw at the half, the Mexicans will trun on their own team.

USA will whip Mexican ass tomorrow. You heard it here first.

And Beasly has walys sucked, still sucks, and will continue to suck.

Some are turning on Klinsman.

And.....Costa Rica is protesting to FIFA the snow game!!!

I had heard that the refs gave Costa Rica the option to stop the game and they had said "keep playing". Figures.

What is the rule in soccer anyway? Is it like football where they play rain, sleet, or snow? Or is it like Euro football where the snow makes the blintzes soggy so they don't play?

And now you know. Len is 'spert. I had coaching license and ref license for USYSA at one time. It's a sport that is called names by those who couldn't last five minutes at it.

An article on what lies ahead for us tonight. Estadio Azteca (literal translation: huge ass stadium full of soccer fans that HATE the US), holds 110,000 people and that place will be totally packed. The weerather, the altitude, the smog, the fans, make this the toughest place to play on our raod to the World Cup.

Game's at 10:00pm tonight. People are saying what a huge taks this is and all the usual drama. I do know that if the US comes out of this with the win, we will have turned a huge corner. And maybe our Kraut Coach will be able to stay a little while :)

I guess I'm kinda like LW ... I decided to stick my head in the door out of curiosity just to see what kind of dorks would hang out in a thread like this. ;)

I can read ... are you telling me you've never ignored a speed limit sign? ;)

Wait, what? There's a limit on how fast you can drive?

I feel about soccer the way that I feel about gay marriage. They're both gay.

Its really too bad we don't have a 'like' button.

We should. Other such forums do!

But that ain't what y'all want. I know y'all. Y'all want a DISLIKE button.

And Thump, yes I have. But it was when I was actually trying to get somewhere!!!

Tonights game will be cool to watch... I've been trying to come up with a different sports analogy that you troglodytes, dolts, trolls and dullards could wrap your brains around but I don't think there IS a good analogy. The national pride and common sport is just.... like.... cool and stuff.

This is my buddy that's down there, headed out to the match under armed security, police escort of the bus, guards around their section for the entire game. The over/under on him being a live if the USA wins is about 4 minutes if he can make it back to the bus :)

Referees all look Hispanic.

US National Anthem not getting any respect in the stadium.

13,000,000 of 'em in our country. Maybe we shoulda bought 'em all tickets to the game.

Buckrub

Halftime.

Looks like USA is trying to get 0-0 draw to me. On the other hand, Mexico has half their dang team up front it seems, and still can't score......... Looks like only hope is for USA to get a counter attack against this high forward onslaught........short of that, just don't see a score coming.

I don't see a team that would get very far in the WC even if they qualify. Just not enough real players. This is like watching the KC Royals play baseball.

But what do I know?

Your positive attitude is inspiring. When the Mexican team takes their lasers off of stun in the second half, it'll be a bloodbath.

I am merely an observer and a commentator.

Well done!

LJ3

I'll take it!

I agree the US Team, as is, wouldn't get far in the WC. We're missing some key players right now that I whope will change, soon. Not sure if Donovan will ever come back but that could have an impact. Howard being out is a biggie, and a couple key defenders.

I think if they have potential. Definitely not the best national team we've ever fielded, though.

I used to love soccer back in the NASL days. I tried to watch the game last night and made it to halftime. I think in the first half I must have seen 15 guys flop down and writhe around on the ground and then raise their hands in the air like they'd been seriously maimed and then when there was no flg, they'd jump up like nothing happened and run down the field. As long as they continue to allow that, I have to say they're nothing but a bunch of mamby pamby pussies.
And the announcers on that game were horrible.
And Bucky is right, it was obvious the USA wasn't playing to win, but to tie. BORING.

I will still pull for them and root for them. I don't think I'll watch much though. Unless the opposing team's fans have lasers. That was fun.

I was in Mexico City in 86 when the World Cup was going on there. Didn't go to any of the games, but it was really cool hanging out with all of the fans from England, Germany, and Brasil at the hotel. By the time we left, we knew most of the cheers for all the teams and quite a few of their songs as well.

LJ3
03-27-2013, 10:37 AM
They weren't playing to get a tie. They were playing to not lose :)

I don't like the dives, either. FIFA needs to do something about that. Even the most ardent fans don't like it.

I guess that means you're a Greg Louganis fan too then if that's the criteria.

A Tie..... Just like T-Ball.....
funny thing. Yesterday,I had students who are American REsidents, but either born in Mexico or whose families are Mexican chanting in the hall Me-ji-co, me-ji-co....
Good kids. But I reminded they live here. It was good natured ribbing both ways.
