I have a 150GB hard drive in my PC.
I have a 500GB external USB hard drive connected to the PC's USB port.

I want to copy EVERYTHING from the internal hard drive to the external hard drive, but can't seem to make that happen.

Do I need some kind of special utility for doing that?
if so, what it be?

The IT guy at work used to call it "ghosting" the hard drive....not sure what that is.

What the end game is....is I have a new computer I'm gonna replace this old one with, and want to be able to connect that external USB hard drive to it and drag and drop files and stuff onto the new computer's drive.

I already tried that. It asked me if I was Sure. I don't know who Sure is, so I clicked no.

If you'd have clicked "yes" ... it would prolly ask, "Are you SURE you're sure" and you'd have started doubting yourself. :D

Hi Niner,

Did the USB drive come with any software - sometimes it is included either separately or on the drive storage itself? You're going to need something if you want to grab EVERYTHING.

Maybe something from this list: http://dottech.org/6194/7-free-software-to-imagebackupghost-your-computer-free-alternatives-to-acronis-true-image-norton-ghost-etc/

I've heard of Paragon from that list, at least...

HTH,
