Got my Duck back

from the taxidermist..........the drake I got the day after Thanksgiving when I hunted in the 'slipper club'......

Looks good, at least to me.

This isn't where he's gonna live, but it's not far from it, and there was a nail there already........didn't want to lay him down and break a wing, so I stuck him on the wall for now.

The mantle clock indeed has a story. It was the sole 'gift' of Aunt Dolly Montgomery. She wasn't my aunt.....we just called her that. She was an old lady that from my earliest memory, our family went by and picked her up to take her to church. She was too old to drive. As I got old enough to drive, many times I'd go get her myself and take her. She lived with 2 other old ladies, who were the librarians at the county library. She wasn't rich, but had some money stashed away, plus that big old house (since torn down). The clock was all our family got. It's a windup clock, hasn't worked in 40 years. Oh, and she also gave me a little tiny green bible, with an inscription in the front........and I have had that in my shop/garage for as long as I can remember.

And no, that's not a 70 lb doe. Our doe are not usually that large. And we eat everything but the hide, so not much left of them. From left to right, those are my two whitetails (not much, but best I have done at our place), the Muley from 2011 Montana hunt, and three of my antelopes...one of which I had mounted from when I started going out there and had no idea how big the BIG ones were. The duck will end up a little below the Muley and between it and the whitetail, probably.

JMHO, why not alternate your Cervid mounts from left to right???....goat-buck-goat-buck-goat, and then put the duck in the middle.

Cause I want to look at 'em this way.....each is a memory I like to bring up when I look at 'em. None are very big. Every animal I ever killed was a trophy. These are not trophies, they are simply visual aids to memories. I have every hope that a really nice one from the farm shows up in the middle someday, and all these have to move a bit.

There's another goat out in the shop bigger than two of these, but he's "Stinky". Had a part time taxidermist that was a failure, and he can't stay in the house, he smells bad.

Nice mounts. I haven't ever shot anything that I'd consider spending the money to get mounted. Got a bunch of antlers in "the basket" though (LOL). It used to be here in GA., if you killed a "basket racked" six pointer you had a "nice one". That has changed though, I have some pretty nice ones on trail cam pics from down at "The Farm".....and have seen a couple that I couldn't get a shot at there.

Have you ever thought about having that old clock fixed? There are some good "clock mechanics" out there that specialize in those old mechanical clocks. Just askin'.
