Been working all day to set up the Friends of NRA banquet tonight. In an hour, I have to go back. Of course, I won't win anything. My buddy wins everything he wants, every year. In 25 years of NRA and Buckmasters banquets, I've won..............a sausage. Period.

Tonight will be no different. I couldn't win if I had Bubba hanging with me. But it's fun, and I have SO much money to spare to get in all these raffles, you know!

Tomorrow, take mother out to eat..........

Then I may sleep for 24 hours.

I have to say that I've always been fairly lucky at the DU and NWTF banquets I've gone to. Of course I've spent a lot of money at them also, but in the long run, I'm still way ahead. I won the gun safe that I have on a $20 raffle ticket at one of the DU banquets. At another one, I won a 14' johnboat with a motor and trailer, and a few dozen decoys included, plus a a few guns and a bunch of other artwork and carved decoys over the years.

I was on the DU committee for a lot of years and sometimes the attendees would make comments about committe members winning things, but I don't think they realized how much money the committee members spent there as well.

Oh well, I hope you do win something, if not at least have fun.

Well Bucky, how'd ya do?
Little trick I have used over the years is to fold over a corner of your ticket before you put it in the bucket, has worked more than once for me.
I just find it fun to attend dinners like this, meet new people, BS about your hunts, find new places to hunt and just good conversation. I buy my share of tickets too, I guess it's my version of going to a casino.

Well, of course my buddy won the Ruger Vaquero .45...............and bid on, and won, a Taurus Mod 85 .38 snub nose.

I bought this at the silent auction:
http://www.cabelas.com/product/MTM-Shoulder-Gard-Rifle-Rest/733658.uts?productVariantId=1398287&WT.tsrc=CSE&WT.mc_id=GoogleProductAds&WT.z_mc_id1=20025870&rid=40&channel=GoogleBaseUSA&mr:trackingCode=4F51E7CC-958E-DF11-A0C8-002219318F67&mr:referralID=NA&mr:adType=pla&mr:ad=25988357711&mr:keyword=&mr:match=&mr:filter=52255515791&gclid=CIP4v5rikLcCFUqZ4AodLlAAzg

Then, when they pulled the raffle tickets for all the different knick-knack buckets, they got to this item:
http://www.amazon.com/Boyt-21124-Bench-Rest/dp/B001O031RY

I said "I bet if I EVER win anything, I win this because I already won the silent auction for the other gun rest"...........

BINGO. I won it.

Course, I'm beat from spending all day helping set it up, and half the night taking it down...........but it was fun.

Sorry Bucky, but I always have to laugh when people say they've 'won' an auction. You're not the only one either.

PT Barnum was right. DU, QU, NWTF, NRA, they've all figured that out long ago and made a killing from it.

I go to give my time and money to support them.......win anything or not. I came home with more than usual. Whatever the definition of that is, I'm fine with it.

If you come back with more stuff than you left with, it's all good. Depending on what happened to your wallet in the process :)

I was at all those banquets that Deputy won all the stuff at. My kids won lots of stuff, me hardly ever. My one big win was a bow. I was late arriving at the banquet and grabbed a ticket at the last second for a winner's pick raffle. The other item went into the auction. I had the choice of a stoeger side by side or a Matthews bow........ Needed a new bow... still shooting it a decade later.
best 20 bucks I have spent at a banquet.
most of the time, the only return I get on my investment is on my tax returns.
