Getting to where I look forward to turkey season about as much as anything. When your 62 years old and awake at 3:30 a.m. anyway - you have an excuse to get up. ;) Iowa will only sell us two tags but I get to call for my son, sil and a couple buddies.
This is my son.

Got a couple more I'll post later but I think I'd better go fishing. I've kind of neglected it.

I get my turkeys at Kroger. They have WAY more dark meat, the only edible part!!! :) :)

That figures! I never thought you could top ketchup on steak ... but preferring dark over white turkey meat takes the cake. You sir, are just plain weird! :smash

Nice turkeys! Will you be using those for the holidays?
I think it was Capt that told me they don't have as much meat, when they are wild!
Thump.... Bite me!!!
I like the dark meat, on a turkey, because its a lot more moist and I use ketchup on my steaks!!

You people eat funny!
But unlike yourselves, I don't mind!
Why chew 5,000 times per bite on white meat? Dark meat on Turkey is juicy, tender.........chicken too.
Y'all be's goofy. You probably all eat the tops out of tubers.

You prompted me to give it a go tonight HH but I only had about an hour. We are only allowed to shoot a bearded turkey in the spring and I had a chance tonight but the bearded one was a hen with a long, skinny beard. Probably should have but the ugly lady still lives.

I'm a dark meat fan too. ;)
Bwana.. I saw an unusual number of bearded hens this year. Had two in front of me at the same time on one hunt.
Here's my buddy from MN's bird. He's been coming down and hunting with me for over 20 years now. I used to go up and hunt grouse with him but my "combine" duties have interfered. Called in his first bird for him. He now hunts in three states. That's a muzzle loader.

Here's my second bird:

Had pretty decent spurs:

Barry - that old gun is closing in on a hundred turkeys. I sent the barrel to Stan Baker nearly 30 years ago and had it chopped, choked and back-bored. Had William's Hi Vis sights on it for years and loved them. Then, I guess they became defective because I could either see the turkey or the sights - not both. Put the scope on about five years ago and that made a whole new world out there again. I've considered new curtains and furniture - but I'm not sure it would be the same. ;)
Sunny.. we occasionally pick and roast one but most are deboned. Many don't even keep the legs and thighs but I have a recipe I came up with for Wild Turkey and Wild Rice soup that's been a real hit.
