Been with the folks from the discovery channel show Moonshiners since last Thursday.
Got the invite about 2 months ago during the planning stage. They had a great band each day, wonderful food and basically a 4 day party. It was held way back in a old chicken barn not too awful far from Conine. Friday I had to attend a training session with the Georgia BBQ Association and I'm now a certified BBQ judge in the state of Georgia. Saturday we actually traveled and did get to judge a BBQ contest. I got to judge Sauces, Ribs and pulled pork!
Drank a LOT of White Likker including one that was blackberry flavored! I over did that one last night :D
Stayed up till early morning hours each night and generally played too hard!
Gonna be a day or two before I'm back at full steam ahead!

I've seen parts of the show a few times, but it never really held my interest. I can't remember if I ever watched a complete show or not, so this may be a dumb question. I don't get the connection between the moonshiners and BBQ contests.

Kribbs there was a BBQ contest and they need judges. I was asked and accepted. GOOD BBQ goes very well with a moonshine gathering. :D

Jerry I took a jar of Cherry Juice and told them about you and your recommendation that lead to the development.
I think there are several that will start that flavor now.
They also had peach, apricot, apple pie, and blackberry.
It was a ball. Some great bluegrass and country music and good food.
The guy I posted above I just met down there. His name is Punch and has made shine all his life. Never been caught and still uses his grand daddy's still. He is the one that took Larry the Cable Guy out and made a run of Likker if you saw that show. He is now legal and making moonshine and selling it out of the old Dawsonville Ga. City hall building. He invited me down to help him make a batch and I think I will take him up on it later this year.
The guys below are my NC friends. Mark, Jeff and Debbie. They are the ones we stayed and partied with. Good folks.

Sunshine, are you are talking about Popcorn Sutton? He got caught several years ago and was looking at a long sentence. He killed himself while awaiting trial.
As far as the way he talks, Archer here talks just like that and almost the same tone.
A lot of the folks in western NC talk like that.
Of course JB might tell y'all I talk like that too!

Marvin "Popcorn" Sutton (October 5, 1946 – March 16, 2009) was an American Appalachian moonshiner originally from Maggie Valley, North Carolina.[1][2][3] He wrote a self-published autobiographical guide to moonshine production, and self-produced a home video depicting his moonshining activities, and he was later the subject of a documentary that won a Regional Emmy Award. He committed suicide in 2009 rather than report to Federal prison after being convicted of offenses related to moonshine production.

Man that is great Larke. Congratulations buddy.

Sounds like a hoot but I could never make it as a BBQ judge. I'd weight 400 pounds after one summer. :)

Picked up a guy the other night that called 911 because his dick was orange. I asked him what he was doing before he noticed. He said. "nothing really, just watching porn and eating Cheetos."

I was in a bit of a mild panic once when I was about 17. I had a reddish area all the way around my pecker and went to the doctor to get checked out. He gave me some stuff to put on it and told me to come back for a follow-up in a couple days. It cleared up almost overnight and when I asked him what the stuff was, he said, "Lipstick Remover!" ;)

Well everyone knows the BEST BBQ is St Louis, Texas style, or as it's known around here DAKOTA style.

The carolina vinegar the hell outta everything then put cole slaw on top is for folks with no taste buds. Prolly from some genetic damage cause theys all gots the same dna........................:swordfight

Forbeing illegal, there seems to be a "flaunt it" if ya got it mentality. Idid watch the show- it even got me drinking whiskey, which has nothappened until this year. I liked the blackberry Birddog you guys suggested. Funny- my wife really like it too. I almost started marking the bottle, but then noticed how fun she was after a few snorts of birddog, so I just bought another bottle.:bj

I am noticing "legal" shine is stores- since the TV show came out. Is it as good as the not so legal stuff? Is it a passing fad?

Also, with video evidence of shine making, has the stature of limitations expired on the group of makers?
