I used to work with a guy that went over to around Mount Ida and searched the mine tailings for quartz crystals. Back in those days, people (Californians mostly) believed that there were powers in crystals and would pay unbelieveable money for a nice one. He'd make $400-$500 a trip just off of what he'd find in the tailings. He was looking for diamonds, obviously, and that's how he paid for his trips over there. I wonder if there's still a market for those quartz crystals?

I found some nice ones at an estate sale, but they're not worth squat on e-Bay.

What do you call big? You can get some monsters out of China for $10-$20.

What? You man the chinese are invading the US crystal market too?

Was just reading about a chinese company taking over Smithfield. No more Smithfield Hams for me. Of course, I didn't buy many of those salty things too often anyway. But it's a sad day when a company with a history like Smithfield gets taken over by the Chinese.

I buy the cheapest, fattest hams I can find......(Usually Smithfield, to be honest). Smoke them, cut off the 'burned' outside fat, and LARRRUUPPPIINNNNNN inside goodness.

and it's 'secede'. I think cedede is what cicadas do at night.

We start out talking about diamonds and end up talking about hams. All in 10 posts. Only at Goodhunting. Going off on a tangent is like a Smithfield Ham. A smithfield is only a smithfield if it's cured in Smithfield. A tangent only makes sense if its a tangent at Goodhunting.

It is some salty-assed stuff, but it slapping a piece between two pieces of biscuit can't be beat. And, don't be hating on China when it comes to pig meat. Those people know there way around a pig.

I suppose the same could be said about Jimbo but we shouldn't talk about his romantic conquest.

I wish we had a 'like' feature. I'd have liked the shit out of that.

So, I assume that means this has gone full circle now ... from diamonds to my girlfriends. I guess that's "kinda" getting back on subject. ;)

crappie.com uses this same software, and the "LIKE" button is activated somehow.

Its something I wanted to turn on a long time ago but we just haven't been able to locate how. And much better minds than mine have looked (hint: NOT Thumper).
I got to chat a bit with the admin of another site that has the feature and he gave me some info on where to find it. If the site turn titty pink or something you'll know I messed up.

I'm talkin about crystals still partially in the rock form about the size of your hand but under 12 inches.
Usually one side is cut flat so they will sit showing the crystals inside the rock.

Those are huge crystals!!!!

That's a geode. I'm talking about quartz crystals that look like something from outer space.

Seriously though, if that's a feature y'all want turned on, I'll see if I can make it happen.

Sunny, like P-hole said, those are geodes. They're usually a round rock, ya' bust it open and that's what's inside. They can be the size of a golf ball or as big as a frigging truck!

Here's a small one cut in half.

http://www.minerals.net/GemStoneInTheRoughImages/amethyst-geode.jpg

What you're looking for is a larger one with just a piece of the rock attached. Like this one:

http://www.dandennis.com/amy_geode.jpg

Here's a really big one:

Huh? Those are almost persactly what you posted. The first one I posted is just like your second one except it's a full half instead of a broken off piece. I'm not sure I can point out much difference between your first one and my second one. Sheeesh! Blondes! ;)

Go to e-bay and type "geode" into the search window. There are elebenty-sebenteen bazillion of 'em, so you should be able to find persactly what you want. They don't bring a lot of money.
