Anybody know how to sharpen electric knife blades? Is there a way to do it that doesn't involve going to the store and buying some gagdet?
My Rapala electric filet knife has two sets and both have cleaned a lot of fish and cut a lot of rib bones so they're duller than doo doo.

Nope but am all ears to find out the answer even though it will likely never be an issue for me given the few fish around here that are dumb enough to bite my hooks.

I do it all the time, along with all serrated knife blades. They are only serrated on one side, mostly.

But sorry, it's a 'gadget'. Only one I own that works, however.

I was looking at those units. You might be able to use something like a chainsaw file or somesuch on them. I have a little knife sharpening gizmo I picked up someplace. I think it is made by Smith's. it has a "cone shaped" diamond impregnated dealie on it for serrated blades. One thing to be careful about is you'll need the backside of the blade to be very flat...no bevel at all....kindof like when you sharpen a pair of scissors.

Somebody told me to use a sharpening steel on em and it'd dress up the edge. I'm gonna try that.

I'm sure its an awesome machine. Ikeep the rest of my stuff sharp the old fashioned way: with a couple Arkansas stones and a shapening steel. I just need to figure out this serrated blade deal. Thanks anywaybKB

Well remember........check it closely. It should be serrated only on one side. That means you SHOULD be able to sharpen that other side just fine, like any other knife.

Try it.
