It was great visiting with you this morning and thanks again for breakfast! If I'd known YOU were picking up the tab, I'd have ordered STEAK and eggs! :D

Hope all turns out well with the shoulder. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Man it was GREAT to see you and meet Lynn and her mom! Wow you got her snowed... You a lucky man!
When you get up to it y'all need to come stay at the farm for a few days.
Between the dirt and cherry juice I think we can cure you!
Had a CT scan today of my head and I have a very serious sinus infection. He said its probably been there for years. However he said it could go to my brain or eyes. So surgery it is on that Nov. the 13th....
MRI on shoulder this Thursday. I won't know results on that till the 6th.
Sucks to get old.

Well dang dude! Now it sounds like the sinus thing could be even more serious than the shoulder! Sinus infection of the EYES/BRAIN?? Sheeesh, never heard of such a thing. So ... does that mean you could potentially sneeze and go blind? Or blow your brains out by blowing your nose? ;)

Seriously, I hope all works out ok. A stay at the farm is on my bucket list!

Thanks again for a great morning. Lynn and Mom asked when I'd seen you last and I told them about the time I delivered a load to the Harris Teeter warehouse, parked the rig and you picked me up. I think it's been far too long between visits!

Wow. Hang in there. Sounds like MAYBE some of this bad stuff is 'fixable'. I hope so!!

Thanks all, Jim he did not say it WAS an infection of the brain or eyes. But it could go to the brain or eyes. He said it would be his guess that this infection has been there more than 10 years. But certainly not to this degree.
He spent a lot of time with me showing me the CT scans and explaining. The best I can tell you is there are 6 openings in the sinus. Two large openings sorta behind the cheeks about the size of 50 cent pieces, two behind your eyes about the size of quarters, and two above that about the size of dimes. The two highest ones are completely full of infections as are the passages from them to the middle openings. The two middle openings are also completely full of infection and the passages to the lower openings. The large opening on my right side is completely full of infection and the one on the left is open only about the size of a quarter. He will go in and vacuum out all of them and flush out everything and put stints in the passages from each. These stints will dissolve in about 3 months.

He said I would not feel better right after surgery, in fact he said I would probably want to kill him when I first wake up. But within a month or so I would feel better than I have in years. He is aware there is a very good possibility I will have to have shoulder surgery the same month and said there is nothing that he would do that would interfere with that surgery.

Cheryl told me today that I had to start taking care of stuff when I feel bad and to quit toughing it out. And I guess she is right....

What did y'all get done today? Did you ever find any good color in the mountains?
I owe you big time for all the neat stuff you passed along today! Thank you so much for all of it. I'm gonna use the timber gauge. It is neat.
Thanks again,

No prob. at all Cappy ... just wish I'd have found some Ford stuff. We went over to NCC and spent quite a bit of time in the Botanical Gardens. (didn't spot Hammerhead wandering around). Then we did some girly stuff like shopping for a while. Basically, it was an "un-wind" day after the hectic schedule we've had so far. We decided to come back to the room last evening and just chill. In fact, we never left the room after we got back ... Lynn went over to Price's Fried Chicken Coop to pick up supper and we just kicked back, watched some tv and ate fried chicken! We're getting ready for a light breakfast right now and will be headed to Charelston for a couple days. Thanks again for the hospitality ... although I HATE to admit it, you're a pretty good ol' feller sometimes! :D

I love Charleston. Lots to do there... If you get a chance go see the Angel Oak. Just damn over 1500 years old! I got a picture of Hammerhead and Meredith about twenty foot up in that tree right above the sign that say no climbing..... Them youngin's! They drove me to drink. ;)

Or go check out the Huntley! Wow.... What a story behind that thing!

Yep, that would be the Hunley! I hope to see it. Lynn is the planning coordinator and has the time crammed full ... Hunley, Battery, Rainbow Row (hold the smart-assed comments), Angel Oak, Gateway Garden Walk, Charles Pinkney Ntl. Historical Site and Arthur Ravenel Bridge on the list. We're packing up now to head to Charelston within the next hour or two and mom's flight back to L.A. leaves (out of Charelston) at 1:30 pm on Friday ... so we have our work cut out for us! Once we get her on the plane, we'll be headed home to "rest"! ;)

Charleston also has a pretty neat aquarium. At least they did when we were there about 10 years ago.

Don't mess with that infection stuff Larke. The son of a good friend of mine had something similar back when he was 15 years old and they ended up having to do brain surgery on him as the infection had worked it's way into his brain cavity. He has since recovered but was on some BIG TIME IV antibiotics for months after the surgery.

I agree that one doesn't need to go to the doctor for every little thing that comes along but once in a while stories like that make a person question that logic.

Best of luck with both issues.

Thanks Bwana. He told me a couple of horror stories too. That's the reason I'm trying to have it done as soon as I can. However I had to get past the 9-11th of November as I HAVE to go on the opening day duck hunt out on the coast! :-)
I've toughed this thing out since March/April this year. Been on steroids 4 times and antibiotics 5 rounds trying to get relief. As it turned out he said no amount of them would cure this.
I am the worlds worse as NOT going to the doctor and thinking this too will pass, but I guess I'm going to have to start. Being it appears I'm wearing out...
What's gonna really tick me off is if I find out I have to have a shoulder replacement and IF I had come in a few months earlier it could have been fixed! I'll be kickin my on ass for a while if that comes to pass..

Cap'n, in ALL seriousness I can attest to the value of getting to the danged doctor when something is not "right" and keeping after it if you don't get what seems like the "right" answer.

I went to four different orthopedic docs about my back that all said it was arthritis. None of them did a CT or MRI. The fifth doc was a "pain management specialist". He took one look at me and said "You need an MRI. TODAY!!!". And that's when I found out the bad news.

I don't go to the doc much either. I hate to take pills and that's all most docs are these days are pill pushers for whatever manufacturer the young gal that bought them lunch last works for. That plus the fact that 100 years ago they were applying leeches and bleeding people and swore at the time that it was all science based medicine. Who's to say they're any different now?

Hope you get fixed up soon Larke. I know this is the time of year you really look forward to after working your butt off all year.

Same here. You got my prayers, man. I know you are maybe the single most active man I ever met, and any downtime is bad.

I know you hate baseball, but think of it like this. This surgery stuff, and repair stuff, is like sitting in the dugout waiting on your turn to bat. Nothing to do but sit, and drink Gatorade, and cheer. BUT YOU WILL GET TO BAT. And now, when you get up there at the plate, maybe you can swing harder??!@!!!!!!

It will get fixed and you will be glad. Rehab is long, too long, but it passed.......and the infection stuff is indeed serious.

I have an "ologist" for everything. I call my GP a "Generalogist". But I have one for stomach, heart, skin, ortho, you name it. I go to 'em. And some of those pills they give me, they actually keep me alive!!!! I hate pills, but some are wondermous.

Hang in there.......and go to docs. Geez man, if you don't trust 'em, call your bro. But do go and do figure it out and DO fix it all!!!

maybe you need to hunt Buckrubs stand.

1) You'll get to hunt.
2) You won't see any deer so there won't be any heavy lifting
3) Bucky will do all the cooking for you

win win situation

I keep a dishpan of hot soapy water handy when I cook. The only dirty dishes are what you eat off of. I hate a mess
