something is going on. The world never worked this way before. "Assault rifle"? The story never told what it was, but it was dang sure an assault rifle, I know that.

My tin foil hat is getting worn out lately.

Lots of sick people out there. I don't know if they always existed, but there is definitely more outlets for news now. I sometimes wonder if the extra publicity of every shooting creates more shooters.... "I want to be remembered" mentality.

So what kind of rifle was it really? I at first heard 'assault rifle' (which I'm not sure what part of a rifle makes it suitable for assault), and then I heard 'semiautomatic' which could really be about anything.

I haven't followed this story much, but I guess the guy's family called the cops because they were worried and they just barely missed picking him up before this happened? THAT's the part we ought to be focusing on. How do we identify these nutbags before they do something like this?

We've been through this. I have first hand knowledge of such things.

You can 'identify' them all you want. You just can't do a dadgum thing to restrict them in any way. Glad everyone thinks that is the answer, but it ain't. Current laws state that they are to be left alone no matter what they say.

Here's another "random" shooting:

Why do none of these occur in the deep south, I wonder?

Oh, and I wish NJ had really strict gun laws to stop people from stealing guns and misusing them............

Like P-hole said ... the first report I heard on the shooting the other day said he was carrying an "assault" rifle.

The newscast I heard on this last shooting said he carried a "modified automatic rifle" that he stole from his brother. WTF was "modified"?

Well, I just read the article you posted.

"Shoop had stolen the weapon, a gun modified to look like an AK-47, from his brother."

WTF??? Will that make it an "assault rifle" now, because it "looks" like one?

I saw a quick flash of the rifle laying on the ground, probably taken from a chopper a long ways off, and it looked like a Mini 14. Could be wrong but from the very brief shot I saw, that's what it looked like to me.

I don't really see a connection to geography. I see TX, LA, AL, FL, NC, etc. on the list along with the other states. I think it has a lot to do with the pussification of our children and their inability to handle stress or rejection without throwing a "fit". The coverage by the media makes it worse because they become celebrities. I wish they wouldn't publicize the names of people that pull this crap. Focus on the victims and ignore the perps (at least in media coverage). All I need to know is that they received the death penalty. I don't need to know their name.

Amen to that. Stop giving them their fifteen minutes of fame and treat them like the rabid dogs they are.
